Before you beat out your cat it might be worth more as scrap complete but if you beat it out not a lot

Re: New forum member
Yeah, I've heard that. Not a clue who would buy it but I'm sure Google could help me there. I'm assuming it's the original Mazda cat but I'll know more when I get it off.
That's the job for tomorrow after work, hopefully it's a 1 man job on axle stands.
If its original then it may pay towards a decat, if its a cheap aftermarket then I might just beat it out & refit to see any improvement

From your pictures, it's 100% an original Mazda cat.GlowingBulb wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 8:27 pmYeah, I've heard that. Not a clue who would buy it but I'm sure Google could help me there. I'm assuming it's the original Mazda cat but I'll know more when I get it off.

Can confirm - the one that's in that photo is an OEM cat. They're pretty distinctive with and even without the heat shield, I don't know of any aftermarket ones that look like them.GlowingBulb wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 8:27 pmI'm assuming it's the original Mazda cat but I'll know more when I get it off.

You may find you like the cheap one enough to keep it! I fitted the Toyo one 4 years ago and it's been excellent. Fits perfectly each time it comes on and off, with no leaks or cracks. I also like the sound, with pops and bangs on every gear change above 7k rpm. Plus occasional flame. And burbles and overrun when dropping revs at around 3500 rpm. All on otherwise stock exhaust.GlowingBulb wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:26 pmDecat will be the way to go to see if that solves the issue, I think I can get a Toyo for £99. I know they're crap but I'm considering it fault finding equipment. Once all is running OK then I'll splash out on a coil pack & a manifold back exhaust from RRP.
It's the best £75 I've ever spent.
More expensive ones are great if you want a particular sound.

Re: New forum member
Cheers guys, I guess the cat did well to last 50k miles.
Hopefully once this next bit is sorted I'll get to enjoy my midlife crisis toy.
I noticed the power was quite flat at low revs when I drove it for a day before it threw the CEL, bogged down if I didn't give it beans when setting off from a star & was a bit "chuggy" when in 2nd driving on my estate about 15mph. Perhaps that was due to a faulty coil, goosed plug & blocked cat.
I was lucky to have a pleasant drive home from Luton at 60mph 70mph really!

Re: New forum member
Bugger, decat arriving tomorrow & the front 3 bolts on the old exhaust are rusted solid. Didn't feel too safe up on 2 axle stands, even with the trolley jack touching the transmission housing in case it slipped.
I'm guessing driving it 10mins to the nearest exhaust garage to get them to do it might screw the engine?

Re: New forum member
Local exhaust shop wont fit own supplied parts & getting the cat off on axle stands is proving very problematic. The good news is that Revs will do this for me on Saturday when they look it over & perform a compression check
Also, probably just as important...

Sounds good!
You should lose the guest title soon, but it is a manual process, so if it's not sorted in a few days, post up in the membership thread and the right people will press the right buttons before long
