Just re introducing myself after coming back to Rex's following a 5 year spell without.
In the space of 6 months Ive ended up with 3 (1 race car, 1 daily driver and 1 for future classic)
The latter is a 2010 run out model R3 with 15k on the clock, and was actually the last new one sold in Ireland.
What I am finding weird is the engine note is deeper than any of the 5 cars I've owned before and was wondering if the run out models had a different set up or exhaust. (I've checked with the previous owner and the car is 100% stock with no mods or upgrades).
On tickover it sounds normal but as the revs pick up it gives out a throaty growl similar to my sound E46 BMW M3.
Thought one of you guys might be able to shed some light on the issue.

Believe it or not a failed coil can cause a change in the engine/exhaust note (sightly deeper from my experience)

Has it still got the cat fitted?
The NCT doesn't require a cat for rotary engines, so many take advantage and fit a decat.

Were/are your other RX8s R3s? The R3 has a different sound to earlier models.
I've not heard of them slapping random parts on the last few cars.

The 2010 wasnt the last anyway was it. Only for europe? I thought the R3 carried on elsewhere until 2014.

2010 for Europe, but 2012 I believe elsewhere I know the US definitely got R3s in 2011, and I think 2012 was mostly Japan, but I may well be wrong on that.

Re: 2010 run out model Engine pitch different
I thought so. Again i watched something the other day and im sure it was a 2014 registered car. Possibly built in 2012/13. Just for this post ours in the uk/europe were not the last to be manufactured or sold as i think the OP may of thought his 2010 was.

Re: 2010 run out model Engine pitch different
Thanks guys. Booked into Rotary Revs on Thursday for a health check to check everything out. Not sure if original coil packs will still be okay after 15000 miles/ 11 years but best checking I guess as a damaged coils may lead to other problems later down the line. Quite like the engine note so hoping its nothing too serious.
