Newbie
Hi,
I’m new to this forum, I own 2 RX8’s, one with a 1jz single turbo 525hp engine and one which is at moment my daily driver with the rotary engine.
I bought 1 owner fsh rotary engined one with an engine issue as a father son project. We removed the engine and located the problem to be stationary bearing so replaced it along with new apex seals (had a few bumps in the road, but got there)
It’s a great little car returning 24 mpg, so not great but ok at moment.
Hope to meet some of you lovely people at some meet this year.
Not sure what’s about in Bucks area and if you accept non Rotary’s??
Doug

Re: Newbie
Hi and Doug. If you're averaging 24mpg from an RX-8 there will be a whole lot of people asking you what your secret is, most can only dream of even getting close to 20mpg (and the rest just don't care).

Re: Newbie
I must admit I was surprised with 24, it’s mainly gentle motorway. I’m getting 265-270 miles on a tank (probably could go more into reserve) filling with 50.5lShagrington wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 6:10 amHi and Doug. It’s a 192, I can deal with the mpg at mo but it might get to me.

Re: Newbie
Below is a link (if it works) for the magazine it was featured in.
It’s utterly insane and great fun as a Sunday car. I need to quieten it down to do track days and Nurburgring next year.
If link doesn’t work I’ll post some pics.

Re: Newbie
It would be good to see an RX8 transplant that actually runs on the road.
A couple of years ago I estimated that less than 20% of such projects, that get announced, even get as far as the engine running in the car. With maybe a quarter of those actually passing an MOT.
That last figure also allows for those that were only ever destined to be drift cars etc.

Re: Newbie
Yes I planning on taking it to meets, I think the nearest to me is the beds/bucks meet, 3rd Friday in the month?? But it doesn’t look on at the moment.
Or any other that someone can recommend??

This car was professionally built by Nispro in Aylesbury, it is a running driving car, everything works, gauges, heated seats etc.
It sounds and drives very well, acceleration is insane.
I’m hoping to take it to the nearest meet near me in bucks.
It’s pretty “fast and furious “ with a big wing at the back and huge intercooler in front, I guess I’m just having a mid life crisis.

Re: Newbie
hows the handling ? as the toyota engine is almost twice the weight ( 20 7kg vs 112kg) and a lot bigger so it must sit farther forward

Re: Newbie
Overall good.Front end feels a bit vague, has BC coil overs, recent adjustment has made a big difference , I’m told heavier springs will make a further difference (it has no anti roll bar due to relocation of engine/new steering rack).
TBH it’s just a fun Sunday car, when you put your foot down it’s incredible and puts a smile on my face, that’s enough for me at moment but I will work on handling.
Going back in next weekend for an RX7 diff with better ratio for motorway driving and steering alignment (polybushed front recently)
I will polybush the rear over winter.

Re: Newbie
Hi '1JZ' - if things open up before 20th August, the Beds/Bucks meet would hopefully take place that evening - fingers crossed!
