Well she's agreed to me spending basically 2 grand on some fancy suspension bits, and if next quarter's commission looks good I may be able to wangle some more. We shall see
To Do List: HKS CAMP2 install; cruise control; new exhaust; detail paintwork, possible respray
Done: Hayward Rotary rebuild and stage 2 port; Racing Beat ARBs, adjustable front droplinks, ram air intake and lightened flywheel; Exedy stage 1 clutch; Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs; Koyo radiator; heated front screen; EBC redstuff pads all round

That's a good result. £5k for a rew crate engine should be an easy sell thenSeriousSam wrote:Well she's agreed to me spending basically 2 grand on some fancy suspension bits, and if next quarter's commission looks good I may be able to wangle some more. We shall see

Re: 400whp turbo setup from NZ
You say that as if we didn't have to remortgage the house in order to finish said house. Let's say we have conflicting priorities on this one, hence my reason for wanting to keep it all modular - a couple of grand here and there, we can do. 30 grand to complete the car in one shot, not quite so likely to get approved!

Re: 400whp turbo setup from NZ
Have recently sent one more manifold out to the US . This was a one off that I just about had to beg to get finished .
Otherwise the are several more waiting at the engineers for machining. All the castings made (waiting for finishing) are spoken for .
Will get those out and wait for the installs and feedback before getting any more made.

Re: 400whp turbo setup from NZ
I understood that is the case. only if someone ditches the order which I doubt will happen. he had a lot of trouble getting these made.
Thought you could DIY it with the design principle he outlined (ie what was the main design idea) from box stainless tubing and a lot of welding gas .

Yes they do ............unless someone changes their mind. Given how long it's taken that is a distinct possibility.

Well , one of those is on its way to the UK . Can't say who it's going to. Don't think he is a regular on here but I'm sure he'll make it known once he has it up and running .

Re: 400whp turbo setup from NZ
You can avoid excessive VAT and customs charges by making sure that you choose the most appropriate commodity code when describing the goods.
See https://www.gov.uk/guidance/finding-com ... or-exports
One-off or small-scale production items can often be labelled as Trade Samples, Test & Development Prototypes, etc

Re: 400whp turbo setup from NZ
Another one is on the way to UK . Someone prominent on the FB pages who knows how to put a good system together so should be great.
Meanwhile it's winter here and mine is absolutely flying on just 10psi (over 350whp from the logs) ..... all i could ever want for really. But I'm getting a built for boost engine done anyway ................... so it will do 13ish psi on pump gas and just shy of 400whp.

Re: 400whp turbo setup from NZ
What do reccommend for building a Renny for boost ?
the REW tip seals I presume, increasing oil pressure and a bigger fuel pump?
what clutch and transmission do you use?

Re: 400whp turbo setup from NZ
Pretty simple .....under 300whp ...bone stock is ok ...
350whp+ : rx7 apex seals , rx8 corners with slotted plugs , balanced , dowelled , incr. oil pressure
Clutch is very dependant on how you want to use the car ..... I just use an exeddy stage 1 HD, but if I wanted to do burnouts and clutch kicks ...something more substantial would be in order.
Gearbox ... rx8 5 speed has been good to me.

One of the two manifolds that made it's way to the UK is currently being fitted and I'll probably be tuning it. Hope to see it up and running before xmas !
