Hello all,

Just thought I would post up and introduce myself. Currently looking to buy an Rx8 having never owned one before. With a young family a modern usable rotary is the dream. I've got 2 Rx7's ( both currently projects I suppose, therefore not drivable). Since I have time for only one project one will be going soon (my green FB). Had Rx7's since about 2003ish.

I've been reading through the posts over the last week or so and most questions are covered..

So what I'm looking for
1. top condition body wise I dont want/need a 3rd project
2. Reasonable compression this will be a weekend car to enjoy without rebuilds but it won't be used as a high mileage car/daily.
3. Something maybe limited numbers wise (black PZ (my choice), White 40th Anniversary (wife's choice) or R3).

Although there is a very nice Phantom Blue at Boston Rotary (I see their on this forum) which is under serious consideration..

I'm still trying to get to grips of real values too. Some autotrader cars seem nice but the pricing looks out of kilter with eBay. I like a bargain ;)

Thanks for the heads up, I have been checking the forum classifieds/eBay/autotrader/gumtree/car and classic. It's definitely on the "of high interest" list ... Its a black PZ absolutely nothing not to love.

The distance is the initial issue. I have a full-time job and a young family. 6 hrs drive is probably too much( plus the return trip) I'm aware I'll need to wait a few months for the right car to come up. Or buy unseen, which will probably put me to a dealer.

I get that. It takes time to find THE one and I am sure that it'll find you when it is ready. Sounds like you're pretty committed to this plan so I hope you have one by the summer.

Hi Rich (yes, casey from rx7fb.com) :D

I hope a good RX-8 turns up without range sometime soon. Shame that the current good ones are all way down south. Having said that, buying blind from the likes of Pete at Boston Rotary and getting the car shipped to you presents minimal risk.

You say "black" or "white" but you realise that doesn't make the license any cheaper Image

However, chosing a pre-2006 car, does :D

Thanks

I got the old Mazda started today. It's sat for a year, a 1985 12A with 92k miles on the original engine and within 2 seconds burst to life happily!

The FB market appears active just now, hopefully I'll get a good price for it. But that doesn't make following through an easy decision. But also makes me keen to make sure it's replacement is worth the heartache of selling the 7.

Haha yes I thought as much!

Markets going the same as the rx7 market where everything is quite far south. I can't quite figure out why?

But I agree Boston Rotary or Enjoyable cars seem to have nice honest examples, I'm definitely keeping an eye on their pages.

Thanks for the welcome 'Greysilver Beast' I'll watch for meets, but I'm not expecting too much for up here!

WarPC0il - I've not seen any early cars yet that I particularly like. The car will be taxed for a few months a year, so the high tax isn't the biggest deal breaker , were any PZ's pre 2006? :-k

Thanks for the welcome all!

I'd look into delivery costs of having someone who drives up/down the country. It cost me £400~ to get my 8 from Keith to Shropshire.

Since you're after a good condition car another £400~ is probably going to be more worthwhile than settling for less imo.

I Definitely agree. Plus dealers may be able to get better prices. But with notice I find shipley can be cheap. It just takes a week for the prices to drop....

I was originally going to travel up to get my car from Scotland myself but after factoring in costs of hiring a transporter driving up/down etc it would've been more money than just having it delivered. I only waited a week or so for shiply prices to come down a bit. But some of the first quotes were in the £500 mark which I just wasn't going to pay. Once it hit around the mark of what it would cost for me to get it myself.. I just accepted it couldn't be helped!

I used them for my FC project. Was a fairly decent experience which I've recommended to others needing things moved.

Just looking through the forums, is there a restriction on where I can post as a new member or as an unpaid member? Some threads I can access but no posting is allowed by my account.

I can't have offended anyone already #-o

I wouldn't buy a Rx8 that's lived its life in Scotland, I've had a Scottish one and a English one both the same age. The difference with rust between them was unbelievable buy one from South in my humble opinion.

Your definitely right. Our Mazdas are often rotten if used daily. All my Rx7's have come from London.

I suppose I am hoping the PZ's or R3's may have been garaged or summer toys only. But I won't be buying anything without going underneath myself.

When I bought my Rx7 convertible in January 2009 I mentioned to the owner it was worth me flying to london to get a better condition car due to Scottish salt etc. He highlighted that they have salt in London too... Point missed I think =D>

A brave move before I'm even an owner , although I think the available selection has improved since I started looking only a few weeks ago.

Hoping I get my 7 advertised by early next week. Resurrecting cars/full time work/kids and life take over...
