I've got the chaps from Ryan Rotary Performance doing the test, I am paying for it so will get the full results. Hopefully they will give me some context along with the raw data, my experience with them so far has been good though, very helpful.

If RRP are doing the test for you then you can expect a pretty extensive report if anything is wrong/

:whathesaid: wasn't sure if you were getting it done by the seller or a mazda dealer, and wasn't sure of how they'd do it - but with RRP you're in good hands :thumleft:

Re: New member looking for a RX8

the results are in...

86 86 88 psi
95 99 97 psi

RRP have said that other than the low numbers it is good. The question really is how long it'll last on those numbers and whether it is worth the investment. I've had a look through some of the posts on compression numbers already, but will have a proper read through and make a decision.

That's is a sexy looking RX8. That cooper red looks great in the sunlight. I am hoping my Nemesis will come out looking that good! Good luck with the compression test. As mentioned make sure to get a number in writing.

Hmmm

car looks smashing apart from the lowish compression

maybe best to go back the seller with the figures and see what you can negotiate off
as 3.5K is strong money and I'd want compression in the 7's for that kind of cash

plus 5.9 and 6.5 bar isn't the end of the world either the car will run and continue to run for at least 10K miles if not a lot longer
plus the compression can sometimes improve with regular beepage

Yes, I think i'll defintiely have it, just see if I can negotiate a bit off the price. I read throught the 'compression myths' post by Hayward Rotary which has given me some confidence.

RRP reckoned 10-15k miles before it becomes a problem which is a good couple of years for me as it'll be a second car, it'll give me a chance to put some money aside ready for a rebuild at that point if required.

As long as you've got your head screwed on and know what you're getting, then I see no issues with buying that car. Just having eyes open and knowing all the possibilities or future issues/prospects is best, and it seems you've done that :thumleft: Worth trying to get a bit knocked off though ;)

Will start a proper ownership thread soon, but so far so good!

Really enjoying it at the moment although taking it fairly easy as I want to get a full service done before I really explore the potential.
