Hello, looking at getting an 8 again

Post by Stokesyjnr »

Hey everyone,

Owned an RX8 but had to give it up because, well, I did... and regretted it ever since. :(

Now in a decent position to look at getting one again, but this time not as a daily but a weekender! Hopefully looking at one over the weekend with the intention of going down the engine rebuild route in the future. It seems getting a cheap 8 and spending a small fortune on the engine and having a good shell makes sense. The car was just ace fun. :D

So, will be frequenting these pages possibly in the future.

Peace

Neil

Why not buy a good one to start with and not worry about getting a rebuild? That makes alot more sense, well to me anyway :)

Honestly, it seems like you can find 8s with good chassis and good engine (at least the S1s) for around £2-4k maximum, and when a rebuild itself is around £2-3k with clutch/ignition as a possibility too while it's all disassembled, I think the misc fixes that you will likely need on the "cheap car blown engine" one will probably tot up to more than buying a good one outright. Paintwork and general maintenance should be an influence to what you choose to buy. All depends on what sort of car you want to buy and whether you want a project, but IMO getting a good one from the start is probably better. They're out there, just gotta keep the eyes peeled ;)

Thanks all for the welcome back and comments.

Now potentially looking at a couple over the weekend, one with 53k on clock, full service book and compression test done beginning of March (low 7’s). Will see what occurs...although travelling restrictions are still in force so may do video...maybe.

Did I choose the wrong time to get a new toy...😂

:-k We can all name a rotary seller famous for all his cars having compression in the low 7's :clint:

Let's hope it's not the case this time... 🤞
