New guy.. but no RX8 yet.. :(

Post by RoryK »

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone is keeping well during these times and had a great Christmas break! :)

I don't currently own an RX8 but I am actively looking for one, I've wanted one for a long time now and decided to finally take the plunge and treat myself.

I am looking for a crystal white pearl R3 to be specific, there is a couple available online at the moment on auto trader and ebay that I have viewed but sadly walked away from both of them, if anyone is considering selling theirs than please do let me know, it would be going to a good home!

Once I have found the right one I'll be sure to get myself setup as a fully paid member and in the interim I have plenty of reading to do!

Cheers :thumright:

:welcome:

Hi Rory! This post hits close to home for me  I was in your position a half year ago, for a crystal white R3, so I can safely say, you have picked out the very best one to have (sorry PZ owners ;))

I will say about R3s though, it will take some time to find the right one for you, mileage/condition/rebuild/location etc. I was looking for around three months and went to see two, neither lived up to the hopes, and I got mine with 42k miles for less than what the similar ones listed on eBay/Autotrader are priced at the moment. So if you're wanting a good example in specific colour, you may have to wait as they are getting rarer now, I think about 500-600 total R3s, but it will be worth it, I promise you! Don't feel like you have to get a worse example because it was the only one for sale, as there are definitely really good ones out there that will pop up! (Take a look at my posts and you'll see a few photos of mine if you fancy it )

I think I might beat shagrington to this one, (but I'm sure he'll be here soon with the guide post ;)) but be sure to look at the buyers guide and the wealth of information here on the forum, and if you chose to become a paid member, there are all the technical documents, discounts, group events and a buy/sell section for parts between members available and more!

I wish you the best with your search for the (best) R3 possible :D

I saw that on Facebook a moment ago. I don't see it on Autotrader, so maybe it's a new one for you? I spy a Porche in the background, so maybe a higher end dealer? Compression tested too, which is a boon.

I've kept my eye on this seller, and he seems to sell a LOT of RX-8s, listed on FB and eBay, all tested and all seem to be either special editions S1s or low miles. He's had a few blue R3s at 20-30k miles for £8.5k that sold quick, and he seems to be a good seller, but he sure knows the value of the good examples. Probably a bit on the high end for many people's tastes, but likely a rather good buy if you want to be sure of history.

His website is here, and listings are on "enjoyable-cars" seller on eBay clicky

He also has a section for cars coming in, which pop up much before he lists them elsewhere, so that might be a possible route too.

Ok, I'll amend that :P:

"a crystal white R3, so I can safely say, you have picked out the very best one to have (sorry PZ, evolve, nemesis, Kuro, shinka, revelation, 40th anniversary and standard edition owners, probably apart from the spiritR folk ;))"

(I realise after typing all that I could have just said "all other rex owners" #-o ) although, a white 40th.... That's my weakspot for any S1 model hah!)

Yup that’s me :)

I tend to keep quiet when the cars I have for sale get mentioned here as I like to see people’s comments and opinions on them.
The white R3 is a lovely car, hence it is priced accordingly, nice examples of RX-8s are steadily climbing in value.

Can't fault you. It's a damn good niche, because I keep my eyes posted on fb, autotrader, gumtree and ebay, and yours are the only ones I see consistently priced, tested and good condition - presented well. I'd like to think that I know where to look for the gems, but those sites are pretty much it

I buy mainly from the trade but do of course end up with a wrong’un every now and again , they can be seen gathering dust in the corner awaiting the compression / rust fairy to come and work her magic.

I guess that's one of the tough things with RX8s, it's hard to tell between the good and bad until you're up close and personal with the car. Probably helps to keep most people away from buying them at auctions etc :-k :-k good for you though if that's the case as you can pick them up for less and work your magic ;)

So.. I am now the proud owner of this beauty! I am so so happy with it, interesting drive home but got back eventually in one piece! Filled her up with some V-power and was surprised at how much of a difference that has made, especially towards the top end!

Gave her a quick clean and parked her up next to my other toy and current project, both will be covered up for the next couple of months as my local council do not hold back with the grit and salt.

Immediate List is:
  • Sign up for full RX8 OCUK Membership
  • do more reading! I have so many questions and I know all my answers will be on this forum!.
I've only given her a quick clean and a quick inspection and from that I have a list of cosmetic bits I want to sort and interior trims to replace, I have a list of other jobs to do on it for the summer which are all mostly the recommended maintenance suggestions and I need to get it booked in with Mazda for an outstanding recall, but right now I think I can sit back gladly knowing I haven't missed the boat on an R3 :D

Finally a shout out to Nick and club for recommendations, cheers guys :thumright:
