Engine issue!! Need advice please
Hi there! I brought my RX-8 last December and I use it every day to work and back. I need advice on something about compassion readings on my RX-8 231. (What should be the correct readings) This morning my rx8 won't start and it's ticking over but no kick. I been told that it could be the low compassion. My car has done 83000 miles. My battery is good! I'm not an mechanic. But I been told they have this issue. What should I do please? I need advice

Re: Engine issue!! Need advice please
Low compression often shows itself as an issue when the engine is hot. It sounds like you have tried to start the engine from cold which if not firing up could mean it is flooded, how long was the engine run for before it was last turned off?
To answer your query, there is no exact answer (to my knowledge) but an engine with even compression figures above six bar could be considered in reasonable health and should start hot or cold.

Re: Engine issue!! Need advice please
It could be several things but given the current cold snap then low battery, slower starter speed, could be the main suspects. There are many other reasons too so ideally someone experienced needs to have a look at it.
Regarding compression numbers there are cars running and starting well with sub 6 compressions yet others with the same figure have been rebuilt.
As said above add your location and hopefully we can direct you to a nearby specialist.

Just off the A275?
I maaaaay be able to help but at that mileage if certainly could be compression (or it won't be great either way) and there's not much I could do to fix it if that is the case. I'm picking some stuff up from my unit at the weekend and could drop something off as I drive back if it's a spare I happen to have.
How good are you at knowing what part is what under a bonnet?

Re: Engine issue!! Need advice please
My stepson is going down to Bournemouth on Saturday surfing so again if there is a parts required that I have in the garage that could get down to Bournemouth with him. I need to know on Friday morning at the latest.

Hi and JamesO.
Accept the offers of help above
Just to be clear "ticking over" would suggest the car has started and is idling, so when you say:
Or do you mean when you turn the key the starter motor turns and it makes all the noises of starting, but it doesn't actually kick and start? That would suggest it is flooded - did you or someone move the car and switch it off stone cold?

Do you mean when you turn the key all you get is a ticking noise? That would suggest to me a flat battery or a loose connection or an issue with the starter motor - maybe one of the battery leads has come loose, make sure they're on tight?
