hi i have been away for almost a year was tempted with an MR2 Roadster loveitbut still want a 8 so goingto buy one soon sub 2k dont even mind one that needs a rebuild but one thing that worrys me is we know these are not unknown for the odd engine to go so with cars 70k up im sure there is achance the Engine might have been changed again no problem but i want a 231 so is the 190 the same engine with a new map etc or is it almost the same and if so is there anyway to tell as the plan is to track it and use every day till april then decide what car to keep or both just dont want to get a pup that will put me off

Hi and :welcome: Rick. :D I believe swapping a 190 into a 231 (or vice versa) isn't impossible but takes a lot of work as, although they are basically the same engine, there are some physical differences so it is very unlikely that will have happened. I don't think that is something you need worry about. The main thing to really look out for is rust, engine rebuilds are relatively straight forward and how much they cost is known, sorting rust is far less predictable and the cost can't be known as it all depends how bad and what is rusted.
