New to the Club
Hi
New to the club but not to the cars, had one in 2004 for 18 months and had to let her go after 18 months due to poor second hand value.
Roll on to 2017 and rescued my PZ from the scrap yard for £400.
Roll on to today and 7K in parts and upgrades later she is due back from the paint shop next week.
I will post photos to share.
Looking forward to meeting some like minded fans when restrictions allow.

Hi
My PZ has a series 1 engine obviously with 2 oil ports that miss lubricating the centre of the apex seals hence the recomendaion to premix which I do.
If I fit a sohn unit and put premix in it what advantage is there?
There will still be no lubrication on the centre of the apex seals surely it makes more sence to put in clean oil and continue to premix, that way the oil burnt will not be dirty oil from the sump but clean oil.
I use mineral 15 w 40 and change every 2k miles
If I fit the dorn and use engine oil will I be at risk of over filling? I currently use around 400 ml per thousand miles

Welcome to the club and what an amazing story that you have found your original car an resurrected it.
The SOHN or COFS from RRP feeds clean 2 Stoke oil in place of engine oil and it burns more cleanly. You can also continue to pre mix 2 stroke in the petrol and of course have the ECU map adjusted to inject more oil.
You should also be ok changing the oil at 3000 mile intervals.

Thanks for the info, to be honest i think I will just stick to premixing, my current car was not my first one as I believe that died thtree years ago, i did rescue my pz from the scrap man though, I dont think the pz was available in 2004, sorry for any confusion.
Getting her back later this week cant wait been without her for 2 weeks, it's been hell.

Premixing and Sohn/cofs are in no way mutually exclusive.
I have Sohn and premix, using the same 2T oil, and my sump oil level doesn't drop at all between changes, though I do still check occasionally.

I will have a look at Cofs.
I want to keep my car as stock as possible, whilst at the same time adopting any changes that will benefit the car in the long run.
There is no point ignoring improvements just for the sake of originality, but I dont want to overdo things and lose the essence of the car.
With modding where do you stop?
The PZ model is quickly dwindling in numbers in 10 years time find a good original one, that's not been nodded to death, that's what I am aiming for with this car.

It is an interesting discussion about the SOHN/COFS/Premix and I suppose each has its pluses. I think if I had spent £7k thus far, another £450 on the COFS is justified. Certainly, when my time comes for a rebuild I'll actively consider it.
However, my car cost £1600 and I couldn't justify the expense. I have, of course, spent money on my 8 which HAD to be spent or was spent in order to ward off future issues - new starter motor, new clutch, new engine mounts, new SS catback, gearbox and diff oil change - but all of those things come to less than £1k I think.
I premix every time and all it costs me is the 2 stroke oil. I pop 100ml in every tank and for the first year alternated between 2 stroke one fill up and ZX1 extralube the next. I am a convert to ZX1 and have used it in all of our cars for over a decade now, although I am aware that there are plenty of folk who think it is snake oil and I am happy for them to tread their path and I'll tread mine.
Your car sounds amazing and, like many others, I am keen to see a full range of pics both inside and out when you get it back.

The COFS itself is only £129.99 https://www.ryanrotaryperformance.com/s ... of-adapter and many people have made their own oil tanks or adapted existing tanks to fit.
The full kit is for those that don't like messing about and want something engineered and aesthetic.

I am the type to go for the kit, too old and little patience to do mechanials, lucky my son builds track cars for a hobby so dont have to fork out for labour.
The costs to date does not over an engine rebuild the car has done 52k and my hope is to get to the point where I have an engine waiting, for when things go wrong, all the fixes to date centre around upgrades although I have had Tein coilovers fitted instead of replacing the eibach springs.
I am very happy with the setup as it is and wont go to the expense of changing back to stock until the present set up fails on some way,
The car is now in solid black 2k ( I hate lacquer) after new wings and bonnet fitted (when I say new second hand obviously)
Being polished at present using 2500, 3500 4500 and 6000 grit before being buffed and top coated.

I was about to say 'Good Lord! £7k in parts!'. Then did my own sums and yep, sounds reasonable. There's a reason I haven't kept a tally of my own spend.

Wife thinks it's about 3k! And that's with the paint, the only good point about it being away for paint is that I have saved £100 in fuel.
Small things like body Fixings, wd40, grease, consumables then plugs coils, leads, wheel spacers, wheel nuts, battery tyres, water pump, thermostat, belts, before the larger things like radiator, mishimoto fans and shroud, starter motor, brake disks, coilovers, to be honest looking back I am staggered myself,
Only hope the car starts to appreciate in value in the years to come!

Is that the recommendation most people go with to change the oils every 3000miles?

The oil needs changing every 6000 miles.
But each time you drain, only (just over) half comes out and gets replaced, so doing it every 3000 miles does the trick.

I will stick to every 2K purely due to wanting to limit the amount of dirt being injected as lubrication.
When I first got the car I changed the oil in the pan topped up run the car for 30 mins and drained again them changed the filter and topped up.
The oil that had only been in half an hour looked like treacle so it will be every 2K until I make my mind up about COFS.
