Re: Hello all new here

Evening all I am finally getting a rebuild on this car and I'm torn between leaving it stock or getting the enlarged/ larger/ extended street port.
I have already done the exhaust have a manifold waiting to go on with the rebuild and awaiting on the delivery of the ram Air duct would it make any gains in the mid range? Should I just leave well alone? Any thoughts? Thanks

While the engine is out and being rebuilt, you'd be crazy not to tinker and atleast get some sort of street port :) You know it makes sense ;)

Not one negative from me on my Street port. Feels good throughout the range, especially at high revs and I actually tend to stay one gear up from where I used to generally, as it feels like the power is there when I want it now without always the need to downshift.

Idle is fine, mpg is similarly as crap as its always been ( no worse ;) ) etc. Maybe go for a small to medium size port if you don't want to change characteristics too much? Think mine was a large one.

As there seem to be no downsides I think I'll go with it, have been toying with the idea for a while.

And off its gone to rotary motion full a full rebuild, clutch replacement, jap speed exhaust manifold and the large street port. Now I'll finally get to enjoy it as its meant to be with compression.

Now I guess the next question is oem or hardrace suspension arms and runner or poly bushings.

Oem suspension arms are pretty much an order in from America as that's the only place I have currently found the upper and lower camber arms but can get some from mx5 parts as I think most are the same as an NC.

Essex rotary sell all the hardrace stuff so easy to find as well as poly bushings.

All I will say is that if you plan to drive it on the street I would stay away from polybushing it. The hard race stuff is nice as it gives you a bit more adjustability. On mine at the back I have a mix of hard race and Japspeed parts which have the benefit of allowing 10.5j wheels on the rear rather than the 9.75j which I could have without (bare in mind that was with rolled arches, where as the 10.5j arches are standard).

In all honesty if your parts are relatively salvageable I would just push in new bushings if you don’t need the adjustability or maybe see if you can get some parts of big Pete or another breaker Image

Good shout I was just thinking of future proofing it as at some point I am going to start track days and thought all the extra adjustability might come in handy.
I did email japspeed the other day but all there stuff is discontinued unfortunately.

Will NC bushings fit the 8's suspension as all I can currently find is poly?

Well that's the engine rebuilt and ported, new clutch and manifold fitted got it back Thursday expecting a fun drive home from Rotary Motion (thanks guys) only to end up with a caliper seizing up on the way home.

Ordered all new bits to go along with the new intake and airbox, centre section of exhaust and new motor mount batcket.

Oh man !! Yeah the bedding in period at low revs takes forever but so good once they take off the limiter and you can start to use the revs. Hopefully the seized caliper was caught quickly and didn't do any lasting damage !!

I don't think it has or I hope it hasn't, I can't wait for that either have a drag up to Nottingham in 2 weeks so that will add a fair chunk of miles. Received the rebuild kit and can't work out where these 2 rubber bits go. Image oh there for the rear callipers

Those are for the handbrake mechanism which if it’s not seized you probably won’t use.

Quick question all unfortunately have discovered a bit of rust, how hard or complex is it to replace the inner sills, outers are gone aswell but that doesn't look like it will be half as bad as the inners

Is there any information anywhere that the shell comes off the 8 like it does the mx5? I've seen that being taken of leaving the front and rear subframe with all suspension parts, engine, gearbox and the supporting beam being left

the subframes can indeed be removed as a unit just the same as a mx5. its a lot of work though.

Not too sure on that one, although the practicality of doing that might not be all that easy. I'd probably say look into the service manuals for any insight on it, as there might hopefully be some useful information to you in there :-k

Just brainstorming around the problem as trying to get hold of a rolling chasis is a pain aswell as I'm in the camp of the current shell cannot be rescued if it could it will probably cost a fair penny.

I think I saw a silver rolling shell for sale on FB not too long ago for £400? Might be worth a look? Can't remember which RX-8 sales group it was though :(

Hey all, anyone have or know of someone with a spare front subframe? Preferably with steering rack and arms still attached?

yup and yes, but my location may be a obstacle....

also worth noting the steering rack seems to think straight ahead is about 5* right of centre so center point will need recalibrating.

Your location is quite the obstacle as I would have to also get it to Wolverhampton as that's where the car is being re-shelled
