Re: New member here - evolve - just saying hey
This is true, but as I am diagnosing faults I figured I'd get some cheapos rather than spending hundreds on what may not be the problem. If it fixes some issues then I will get some genuine coils and keep these for spares

You're assuming that the cheapo coils are good enough to be actually working properly under stress, which might not be the case, even when new.
If you'd just replacing as a diagnostic, it would have been better to borrow a known good set of Mazda coils.

Re: New member here - evolve - just saying hey
Well I got them fitted today and they do seem to be performing well, definitely better than what was in there before, however the hot start issue still persists.
It seems that there is a fuel cut as it attempts to fire up but then goes into 'flooding' crank mode where there is no fuel being injected. It is strange why this is only when it is hot but I will get to the bottom of this. Maybe a bad relay, maybe a bad pump/filter. Will have a looksee tomorrow. ESS has been cleaned up but I will also get this off and reset NVRAM again tomorrow after a good clean up. It was pretty caked so would like to give it a proper clean

Heya dude, does it fire up if you press and hold the gas pedal down while cranking then release the pedal?

Sadly not, this was the first thing I tried after picking her up and getting fuel.I guess I could just bite the bullet and get her tested for comression.

As you have said, it's time for a compression test. Luke Murdoch is the man to contact if you want someone to come to you, lots of members have used him.

Luke can do the compression test and also check for the other potential causes of the problem

Re: New member here - evolve - just saying hey
Sorry for the delay in responses. Been a bit busy of late. I managed to get a video of the issue today, As you can see it seems that the fuel just cuts off after a few turns. I have replaced the pump, fitted a decat and changed the coils for genuine mazda ones now. Hoping someone will have some insight to this. The starter itself sounds very odd, like it's missing but I have also tried 3 of these, known working as they were mine from a previous car. Anyway here's the video. Looking forward to your responses.
Oh there's some silver shavings coming out of the exhaust (noticed it after I put a decat pipe on) so I am assuming part of the cat has come away abd is lodged in the rear section, but I doubt that would have any impact on the starting

that sounds exactly like mine when it died on track.
it had about 3 bar compression....
with it also having a collapsed cat, im going with aa compression issue, im afraid.

Re: New member here - evolve - just saying hey
I'll get it booked in for next week. I'll also be getting a cat back next week as the rear exhaust is completely rotted, to the point where one of the exits literally fell off haha. I'll get saving for a rebuild, I was going to do it anyway as it's such a rare car, 137 on the road currently. Shame to see them being stripped
