Hello From Scotland, again!!

Post by Calcifur83 »

Hi guys, I'm Back!

finally looking at putting my RX8 back on the road after 4years being parked up in the garage. So expect to see me snooping around here a lot for info, as we some plans for it ;) .

While I am here, does anyone have any tips for starting a rotary that has sat for that length of time? The engine had not long had a rebuild from Rotary Revs before being parked up, so it is (or atleast was) a healthy engine.

Cheers

Fresh fuel in the tank.

Check tyre pressures.

Fully charge battery.

Spin engine on starter with throttle fully down for 10 seconds. Wait a few minutes for battery to recover and starter to cool, then repeat. This primes the oil system.

Drive the car, don't just run engine stationary, as this causes problems with temperature gradient (hot/cold).

Change the engine oil after the first run.

Check brakes and wheel temperatures after first run in case a caliper has seized on slide pins.

Thanks, you have confirmed my thoughts. Turns out I am way off on my timings and its only been parked up for about 1 1/2 yr. I thought we parked it up when daughter #1 came along, but turns out it when #2 came along! It's amazing how kids mess with your sense of time!! ImageImage.

well it started, eventually, and actually ran really well. the brakes are dragging a lot though so I couldn't take it very far. Needs an MOT, insurance and Tax anyway so it only went around the car park at the place it's stored. Rust is a major issue now though. The car has a nearly new full exhaust from Pettit racing, everything bar the header. and a relatively newly rebuilt engine from Rotary Revs, so the plan is to find another 192 with rust-free bodywork and transplant all the good stuff into that. Ideally looking for a blue Nemesis.
