Hi Dave,
I've enabled this account as a full member now - the id you put on the application matched a different forum account.
Put your location in your profile ucp.php?i=ucp_profile&mode=profile_info and someone may be local enough to be able to help directly.
Otherwise, can you give some more details about your car - what mileage is it? Has anything been changed, either by you or a previous owner (any service records)? Are the plugs, coils and leads original or updated? Hopefully someone will be able to offer some more advice.

Re: NEWBY NEEDS HELP
At a guess the coils were cheap ones and created some heat, i might have a 192 engine loom somewhere if you want that, or i can find some replacement plugs for the coils. Tbf you be better off replacing the loom.

Two very effective ways of destroying or at least crippling your engine.

Re: NEWBY NEEDS HELP
The loom goes from the ecu to all the engine electrics and then off to the gearbox. You will need to remove the following parts for full access. Ecu lid, battery box, airbox, strut brace, upper plastic intake. Put the car on axle stands to be able to get to the gearbox connectors. There an Arse on a 5 speed. Also there’s an earth to the side of the engine just below the spark plugs. Hardest part is disconnecting the injectors

Re: NEWBY NEEDS HELP
It's a bit of a faff to get the loom off in situ - are you changing the whole lot or just splicing in the affected bit?

Re: NEWBY NEEDS HELP
It could be the faulty coils blowing the fuse or just the melted connector that's now shorted.
Splicing a new connector is far easier that replacing the loom.
Just as good if you do it well and less likely to cause more problems.

Re: NEWBY NEEDS HELP
I was going to suggest splicing in would be easier, but it sounds like the op has it all but removed already
The Black/White wires for each coil run to a common +12v supply and the Black wires to a common ground, but I don't remember where they all physically join. The remaining trigger wires run separately straight to the PCM through the loom.

Re: NEWBY NEEDS HELP
If that's all that's needed then just splice one in will be much easier, i though it might be worse than that, I can post one out tomorrow if you want? Just pm me. Your going to need proper coils tho otherwise it will just happen again

Re: NEWBY NEEDS HELP
E-BAY Wonderman tools lesson learned i think. I dont feel comfortable stripping the engine back any further so think i`ll try splicing. new coils are NGK bit i still have the old coils made by VOLT i only changed for my peace of mind. Thanks again everone so helpful on here i really cant believe the suggestions people have come up with to try and help much appreciated.
