Hi everyone,

I currently own a Lotus Evora but I'm looking to swap that for an RX-8!

Nice to meet you all!

You're best bet would be to meet with some existing owners, and their cars, in person.

My guess is that you're equidistant from the Essex, Bucks/Beds/Herts/Northants, and East Midlands, regular meets

I will swap my RX-8 for the Evora! That’s what you meant, right?

But seriously, welcome and look forward to hearing about your purchase , pics of the Lotus would be welcome too I am sure.

warpc0il, I've already driven a couple of RX-8s. It was looking at them when I decided to get the Evora 2 years ago.

Shagrington, Yeah, I've found the buyer's guide, it's best one so far and what got me here.

Nickp47, Sure! Oh btw, there's £20k registration transfer fee  and as you asked so nicely

No that's a 3.5 v6 N/A, so only 280ps. In terms of reliability, I've had silly low-use related reliability issues like having to unlock the passenger's side door on the key and reach through to unlock the driver's door because the central locking servos ceased up due to hard/crunchy grease. Or to put it another way; I don't regret buying a Lotus, I regret buying a 9-year-old Lotus with 24k miles on the clock and the first 15k of those being done in the first 2 years of ownership.

Ive watched a few reviews and the Toyota power plant is well Toyota!!! Seems like a performance bargain to me....its got to be the supercharged 1 for me...and yes ill be at the bottom end of the market ...ive a vx220 in the past an just completely impractical so an exige is out. At least you get some boot space in an evora.

So I spotted this very cheap RX-8, with disclosure of why. Would that be worth considering, understanding it is a risk, or should I just look elsewhere?

Needs a set of coils plugs and leads. Circa £450. Cat will be questionable and may need changing...its abit of a gamble. 2k will get you a sorted car tbh.

I hope you are going into this swap with eyes open as the Lotus is the natural step up from the RX8 and you are really, really going to notice the lack of torque; it will drive you crazy for the first few days. I have a 430 Cup and when I go back to the RX8 it drives me crazy for the first few miles.

It’s not that cheap TBH, as above new cat/decat and new ignition will likely sort it but what if the engine is running low compression anyway?

Having acclimatised to 500~530Nm @ 1300~5500 rpm a few years ago, there's not much between the RX-8 and the Evora. I'm already revving out the Evora in daily driving, so no change there!

Welcome to the shed club! :D
Chassis shed status confirmed :censored: :censored: :censored:

On the plus side, I tracked down the slightly odd smell in the boot. A number of small bottles with 4 lines around and the top one marked "Full tank" and a mostly empty bottle of 2 stroke oil with a 02/19 production date. Hopefully, this is good news for the engine condition.
