Can't find an open boot button!

Post by Modos »

Hi guys,

I've been an RX-8 owner for around 2 months now (best decision of my life)!!

I have one problem though, I can't seem to find an open boot button on the inside of the car.
It's a bit of a headache turning off the car just to use the button on the key and then turn the engine on again.

I have a 2007 40th Anniversary RX-8 and I've tried googling for an answer but have come up short.

If anyone has an answer, that would be brilliant, thanks!

Hi and :welcome: Modos. :D I'm guessing you don't have an owner's manual? The boot release is a button right next to the bonnet release lever by your right knee. If pushing the button doesn't work look for the switch inside the glove box that disables the boot release button and flick that so it is enabled again.

There is an Owners manual USA version.

Boot (Trunk) release button is 27.

The boot button disable switch inside the glove box only makes any sense if you've also got the grey key with the car, and you use valet parking.

The idea is that you can disable the boot button and then lock the glove box with your black key.

The grey key doesn't open either the glove box or boot, so contents are secured against valet parking theft.

Seems like a complex solution to a infrequent issue...

From memory I think you can open the boot using the key without having to shut the car down. I could have sworn I've done this before

I'll check it out later....

Yes, you can open the boot with the key in the lock (in the driver's side instrument cluster), with the remote and via the remote button. if the remote buttons stops working then check the button in the glove box.

It's available pretty much everywhere these days with the only caveat being you don't volunteer your keys
