I hadn't closed my browser since first viewing the photos, so likely it was cached on my desktop.
Clearing the browser cache now I see the camera (phone) details but the geotag data has gone.

Glad we got that all sorted out! Thanks for the heads up on that.
Back to the original point, do I have a potential claim against a dealer who gives a clean bill of health on a check list to an item that was clearly not healthy, and actually full of serious corrosion, that frankly, they should have spotted and advised on in both last year and in previous health checks.

Re: My RX8 horror story - any help appreciated!
I suspect not as it would be impossible to prove.
Surface corrosion, while it looks bad, is often not the problem for structural items.
Subframes and hollow links can rust from the inside out and this can't be detected* until it breaks through to the surface and it's too late.
My advise would be to look forward to getting it sorted rather than to find someone to blame.
Drop the admins a note and they may be able to find your original account, reset the password and merge your old and new accounts.
*not visually or by any equipment in a garage.

Re: My RX8 horror story - any help appreciated!
Thanks again. My gut feeling is that it is pointless trying to fix it. I feel it would be cheaper and easier to buy another RX8. However, that gut feeling is based on total ignorance of what costs would be involved in fixing my current car!

You know your car already.
And your mileage is on the lower side.
Get a mobile welder to weld the sills.
Second hand rear subframe complete.
You could even give the subframe a coating of chassis black paint to protect it.
May be worth dropping Luke Murdock the mobile RX8 guy a call

If you want us to look at us then we are more than happy to carry out this kind of work.
Some pictures below of recent underneath restoration work, no over use of under-seal which hides the rust, but rust removal, treatment and painting or powder coating for protection with the box sections filled will cavity wax.
If interested mate give us a PM.

Re: My RX8 horror story - any help appreciated!
I didn't really get anywhere with any of the contacts given here, but I found someone locally who could do the work if he had the parts.
Does anyone know how I can source all the rear suspension parts? Not being technically minded, any help appreciated!

BigPete (Boston Rotary) would be a good place to start.

Re: My RX8 horror story - any help appreciated!
Guys, I've pretty much decided that I don't have the time or energy to try and sort out this repair. So, can someone give me advice on the best way of selling my car for spares? It's all in pretty good condition - except for the rear suspension and sub frame!
I can supply any photos.
Just not sure of the best way of going about this.

Re: My RX8 horror story - any help appreciated!
you have to be a current member on here to sell, although you might want to ask a mod about that, one you are approved add it to the for sale sections with a attractive price and lots of pics and i might be tempted to come and tske a look!
