spoiler/s

Post by NedKelly » Mon May 07, 2018 1:35 am

I've recently bought a 55 plate 231.
Mods (not done by me) as per:-
Sohn adapter with Mocal reservoir tank and Aeroquip piping using synthetic 2 stroke oil
D585 coils and Magnecor leads
Toyosports high flow stainless steel exhaust manifold
Toyosports cat back exhaust and Toyosports high flow cat.
Lightweight underdrive alloy pulleys
Recent new lambda sensors. Eibach lowering Springs and Koni adjustable rear shocks
Modified rear antiroll bar and new drop links
Wheels powder coated white with recent new General Altimax tyres at 48000 miles
20mm rear wheel spacers. Paint velocity red 27a 87.

I'd like to add a "Hooped Spoiler" along the lines of a Prodrive PZ type (or similar), sorry to you guys that like the JDM types.
I've seen a couple threads on here, some detailing cut and moulding, but would prefer a straight bolt on,either retaining the "Lip Spoiler" and adding the extra spoiler or removing the lip spoiler and utilising the existing mount points plus filling of the extra hole. Advice, how to's and hints and tips be real appreciated.
I'm in Swansea area.
Those in the know know where that is. those that don't it's off to your left (if you looking upto Scotland)

Hi and :welcome: NedKelly. :D Personally I'd remove the lip spoiler if I were you if you are fitting another spoiler. Some don't and do make it work to be fair, some don't and it looks a bit too cluttered for my liking.

It just so happens one of our ever helpful Spin Doctors did a guide on removing the lip spoiler and fitting a hoop spoiler (this is not the PZ or 40th Anniversary style spoiler, the hoop spoiler is from the Mazda aero body kit). Here is the guide https://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/v ... 30&t=37203

If you want to fit a PZ spoiler there is another guide by our shopkeeper here https://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/v ... 30&t=39925

Check the social meets section for the next South Wales meet.

Hi, you know you don't have to limit yourself to a spoiler specifically for the 8, several spoilers will fit, less course you just after the loop spoiler

A fairly popular spoiler to fit is an astra irmscher spoiler i believe. I found when fitting my pz spoiler that a 22mm conduit hole cutter made perfect holes in the underside of the boot to fit washers and nuts, best advice I was given for marking holes for the studs was to put a blob of toothpaste on them, this leaves a witness on the boot, for the position of the holes that need drilling for the pz spoiler. Drill all the way through with a pilot drill, including the reinforcing panel inside the boot lid.
