Hello.

Finally got myself an rx8. I had one before and after needing a rebuild and just as I got to finishing breaking it in someone drove out on front of me writing it off so killed my interest in the car.

After having a few other cars I decided I needed one again so I'm back in and happy. Got a lot of plans for this one so now to get buying

Hi and :welcome: The Ginga NinjRx8. :D Shame about your first one just as you had it run in, but you did right to try again with another.

Have a good read through whatever in the FAQ section you didn't already read :study: and then (and just ignore me if you know all this already) here are my best tips for keeping it all running sweetly:

1. To start up turn the key to position 2, wait for most of the lights on the dash to go out (I watch the airbag light by the glove box), press the clutch to the floor (optional, but reduces drag), turn the key to start and do not touch the throttle until it has started. You can drive off straight away, just keep the revs down for a bit (see #4 below).

2. Never [-X turn off the engine before it has reached at least somewhere towards normal operating temperature (should only take a minute or two, but best to go for a short drive if just swapping cars round on the drive etc). Switching off cold risks flooding, which is a real :censored: with a rotary engine. Mazda recommend rev to 4k and hold it for 8-10 seconds switching off while still revving if you have no option but to switch off cold (it is not necessary to do this in any other circumstance).

3. Check the oil level regularly (use the dipstick - the oil gauge tells you nothing other than that you have or don't have pressure) and top up if necessary with semi synthetic 5w30 (more people are advising to use 10w40 now though) ... small amounts at a time, no more than ½ a litre then check the level again before adding more as you don't want to overfill it.

4. Use all the revs once the engine is nice and warm (keep it below about 4k until the needle on the water temperature gauge is pointing straight up, then give it another 10 minutes for the oil to warm up too before really thrashing it  ) and hit the beep often. Best acceleration is from 4k revs up - to pull away you really need to rev to 2k - you can let the revs drop after lifting the clutch if you are in traffic, cruising steadily at 3½k revs and changing down to go up hills or accelerate gets you the best mpg ... which still won't be great. ;)

5. Join the club for discounts on all sorts of things (you will very quickly get the cost of membership back - and then some), loads more info in the members only sections, local meets (or if you can't find one exactly local it is a good excuse for a drive if you come to one a bit further away), a sexy keyring just for joining and more. :thumright:

Thanks for the info. I did know most before as when breaking it in I wasn't allowed to go above 4k at all lol.

Very happy to be back in a rotary not everyone's cup of tea but I do love them.

Now for the shopping list to be bought lol

Can anyone help.

I find that I can't post anywhere but in here. Do I need to have so many posts before I can or do I need to pay to be a member?

As a guest you're very limited in where you can post

As a forum guest you can post here or (for any questions, advice etc) in the RX-8 Discussion section and in the various social meets/events sections. You have read-only access to other sections like the FAQs, Buying & Selling, Traders and the DIYs etc and there is quite a bit more that you can't see at all. If you join the club it does all open up for you and you'll gain access to technical manuals, members discount codes and loads more.

If you're able to get away for a Wednesday evening and want to come along to the next Surrey area meet on 2nd May to meet a few club members over some food and a beer (or Coke if you're driving of course  ) and maybe have a look at some cars to see if they give you any ideas of what you might so with yours (how different spoilers look etc depending who is there of course) before you decide if joining is something you want to do it is just a trip down the A3 to Cobham. You will be very welcome. :thumleft: Details and directions etc here https://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/v ... 99&t=59273

It’s done manually so someone will pick it up soon. Plus you will get some shiny goodies in the post :thumright:

It's a manual process for the membership secretary to see the notification and change your status - could be 5 minutes, might be 24 hours - probably closer to the former than the latter.

edit: so many helpful people! =D>
