Hi.
Thanks for letting me join.
I am in the process of fitting an RX8 engine and gearbox to an Austin A40.... OK. I need a bit of advice. What would be the best method of running the engine - using an original ECU etc, or a stand alone? It's not going to be modified. 200bhp+ in a 600kg car should be enough for the moment. I can see that it might be difficult with the speedo, etc all being part of the set up.
Please, your thoughts! Thanks

The easiest way is to consider it as re-bodying an RX8, rather than re-engining an A40.
This approach means keeping both the PCM and instrument cluster from the RX8.

IT depends. you 'could' do a loom graft (for a good example of this look a bad obsession motorsport on youtube) and keep every rx8 function. you would need the abs module, security module, epas module, main ecu, the full loom, and clocks. also you will need to do something about the airbags. at this point you also need to have the abs sensors and reluctor rings somehow grafted to your hubs.
it would be far easier especially if you dont care about traction and abs, to use a aftermarket ecu like haltech (they do one that can run the OMP) and go standalone. literally 1/10 of the work.

Re: RX8 Engine into different car!
I have previously fitted RX8 engines in different cars.
The best, cheapest and easiest solution is to keep the engine and wiring together with the ecu, throttle body and pedal wiring do an immo delete on the ecu (or buy a pre 2004 ecu that has no immo) and hardwire the rest of the stuff that you need.
For cluster just use an aftermaket can-bus cluster that will get the rpm from can network and gps speed.Otherwise you will require to also fit the abs pump and wheel speed sensors which will be a pain to do.

Re: RX8 Engine into different car!
The MUCH simpler option would be to not fit an RX8 Renesis engine but go for a 12A or 13B from an RX7, much more mechanical and less dependence on sensors and electronics.

Re: RX8 Engine into different car!
Though the 12A is a much inferior engine and the 13b an expensive and hard to find one.

Re: RX8 Engine into different car!
I’m trying to use the full RX8 wiring loom with everything not needed taking out.
Using a Adaptronic Plug and Play ECU.
From what I’m read and been told you can use the rx8 ECU but you need the anti theft system removed if you don’t want to run the security systems.
There’s a fantastic Escort MK3/4 that’s running a full RX8 running gear.
Built by Stolton Engineering worth a search on the internet.
I personally would go aftermarket ECU haltec or link. With a custom engine loom.
And if funds allow the RX7 13B engine.
As there’s so much more aftermarket parts accessories (Sorry RX8 guys).
That A40 engine bay is very small.
Supercharged A35.
Built by the guy I rent the barn storage from.
Get a spare engine and box before you commit.
I do have a spare dummy block.
My Sprint Engine bay.
Yes that is a Eaton M90 Supercharger
13BLT Renesis Rotary powered Dolomite Sprint in the making
