Been a long time in coming... I now have an RX8!

Post by Plan3tBob » Wed Dec 19, 2018 11:01 am

I started on my RX8 journey over 6 months ago... this was my first post back in July! 8) viewtopic.php?f=35&t=77700&p=1165984#p1165984

FYI: This community is epic and certainly part of the appeal - so huge thanks to you all for your help and advice to me and others :thumleft:

I originally budgeted for £1-2k... (or more if recent rebuild) but you know how these things go...
You drive for 4 hours for 'right' car, turn up to a car with a 'perfect' engine, only to find it doesn't start if it's a sunny day.
.. and repeat a few times with different issues.. "Ahh, yes... the photos were taken 3 years ago... looked great didn't it!"
And I must admit to getting a bit disheartened with the entire thing.

Originally I'd been looking at lower tax band cars too because, quite frankly, the tax man gets far too much already and it's just not right.. especially for a weekend car.

And then... That damn R3 just looks so sweet...

So - bringing wifey along on this journey ;) - I started looking higher up the money scale and that original budget went out of the window. Whats the saying: "Put a frog in boiling water and it will jump out, Put it in cold water and slowly heat it up and it will go along with it..." I certainly felt a bit like that :)

Needless to say, after tons of research and months of looking for the right car, I found her :D Low milage, 2 owners, FSH, no rust and starts the same regardless of temp and time.

My first pic when we got her home from Southampton: (blurry but nice all the same)
home.jpg
Couply more in the sun (well... it was during the day time... sun was hiding)
day 1.jpg
day 2.jpg
And my boys think its very cool :)
day.jpg

It took some time but I know I made the right decision, I'm certainly looking forward to the summer with dry roads to play on.

Have a great Christmas all!
Mark

Good choice! You'll be very pleased all day every day!

If I can recommend one thing which will definitely increase your fun and confidence in driving your lovely R3, I'd say get the new ignition kit from Ryan Rotary Performance. Yes the car feels like it has plenty juice already, but these give it just that little bit more.

As for driving it, if you have the time and the money, get up to Scotland for the RX8NC500 in 2019. It's the best driving you can do in this car, it's truly built for the kinds of roads you'll see up there.

Anyway, welcome, enjoy, and we're all here to help.

I give it three months and you'll start modding it ;) As was said previously get the rotary revs ( or RRP) coils on and get a mini map after doing so, the car will thank you for it.

If you decide you want a better exhaust system on her I can recommend the Milltek cat back. Myself and a few other R3 owners have this fitted and it's luuuuuurvly 8)

You've made the right choice with the R3, best of luck with her ;)

Yep, Ignition kit.. certainly at the top of the list.

Twisty roads, can see for miles, I can imagine there be some good driving roads... :D

Exhaust: There will be an exhaust change in the future I've no doubt. I'll change the entire system from manifold to tip if there's value in doing so - preferably with a consistent diameter the entire length... But yes 8) It's certainly on my radar...

Having said that... I will need to drive to Reading and back every month or so - so I don't want something that will make me regret it on long journeys! (needs to be neighbour friendly too.) - the researching never ends..
