Replacement Radiator

Post by Ninja_Freak » Tue Apr 16, 2019 1:56 pm

HI folks,

As the car is in the shop having a rebuild (more on that later), after 100k miles on, is it time to change the rad?

What are the options? This (https://www.mishimoto.co.uk/mazda-rx8-p ... gIkZfD_BwE) is very pretty but it's also £260 quid (assuming we don't have a club discount anywhere??) which is quite a bit. Is it better to find a decent used version or not to worry at all?

All input gratefully received!

NF

My advice is do not go for the mishimoto. It doesn't fit well. Go for OEM , less than 100£ from euro car parts or a bigger koyo if you're feeling flush! If the one fitted is the original one, then save some dosh and replace it with the same.

Was it you that had the world of pain trying to fit a MM rad?

Why change the rad?

Just give it a good flush with a hose and refit, unless it's damaged.

Money no object, The Pro-Alloy is the best I've seen and is what I have on mine, the Mishimoto fits a lot better these days and also has the mounting points for the AC condenser.

Pro Alloy £540
Mishimoto £250

The Mishi rad I fitted to Ed's car wasn't that testing imho. That was a recent one with AC mounts.

The Koyo rads that Clive sells are a very good option, fit is not a problem and performance is excellent.

Done: Hayward Rotary rebuild and stage 2 port; Racing Beat ARBs, adjustable front droplinks, ram air intake and lightened flywheel; Exedy stage 1 clutch; Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs; Koyo radiator; heated front screen; EBC redstuff pads all round
