CAI.. Fitting

Post by Billsrx8 » Thu Mar 28, 2019 8:30 am

Good morning all, I was recently bought a after market CAI, the one with the cone filter that does away with the air box and leaves a gaping hole in the engine bay. I was wondering if anyone has ever fitted one but left the air box in place and basically cut it so the pipe goes right through it. Meaning I can have my engine bay intact and engine covers fitted. Thank you Bill

Yes, we had a member called couper (Mark) that did this. He cut the front and rear bits of the filter box out so it could be refitted over the AEM pipework, and even fitted a window in the top. It was years ago now and although his thread is still there it unfortunately looks like he deleted most of the posts. You just need to get busy with the coping saw and Dremel :thumleft:

That's brilliant thank you, I'll maybe post a few pics when complete. 👍

Is it an AEM intake, so you just have the metal pipe going across where the airbox was, or some other "CAI" that presents a bare cone filter in place of the original airbox?

I've put "CAI" in quotes because these are anything but Cold Air Intakes, as they take their air from the hot engine bay and play havoc with the airflow over the MAF, both of which kills engine power.

Hopefully, it's the AEM, in which case Phil's answer applies. Otherwise send it back or throw it away.

See viewtopic.php?f=6&t=78199&hilit=CAI for further details,
skip down to the highlighted bit if you're bored.

Hi Dave it's the metal pipe version that runs across the air box then out the front of the car. It seems to have all the holes and bits required. Bill
