Post by The Ginga NinjRx8 » Thu Nov 29, 2018 8:53 am

So I have just bought new wheels for my car and need some help with the best sizes to run and best for the car.

I have just got

I also have some new coilovers going on after that I look to drop the car to fill the arch not aiming to slam it though just nice ride height with look

okay so that's equivalent to running 15mm spacers
plus the rims are 1.5" wider than standard; 3/4" either side, which puts the outer rim another 19mm out.

You're now looking at a total of 34mm increase in outer track, so you're either going to need the arches rolled or run radical camber, or both, and that's before you consider any of the impact in lowering.

These aren't appropriate wheels for road use.

Roll the arches... I use 9j rims with et20 and 235/40 tyres and they would of never fit with without rolling it and you will want 245+ on 9.5
Project thread Galaxy grey 231 - Street Port, Tein coilovers, decat, D585's, Cobra Catback whatever 9j wheels aren't broken at the moment and a massive wing

That's not a good read. When I called up the company for advice on best wheels for the effect I was going for they didn't say this would be the case.

What is the best thing to do or best size to go for as all I wanted was the wheels to fill the arches with nice poke and concave all around as normally the front does have as much as the back so wanted all round

MOD BIT:

The OP originally posted his question in the Technical FAQ section - which is for Answers not questions and requires approval before it's visible. One of the Mods approved the post and immediately moved it to the Aftermarket section -which is the right place.

In the meantime the OP, not seeing his post appear in Technical FAQ, re-posted this time in DIY - which is again not for questions but for DIY How Too's, and was a duplicate

Given the minimal response on the Aftermarket thread I've sent that off to Quick Expire and moved the more active thread back to Aftermarket.

When posting a new thread please check the information for each section in the index
index.php

Better yet, use the Search facility to see if there's already a thread that might have the answer you're looking for or at least be on-topic for your question

If in doubt, post in
RX-8 Discussion (All forum)
RX-8 General Discussion - Members Only
or The Forum Lounge Members Only random stuff
and ask a Moderator to relocate if appropriate.

Thank you - and back to the discussion...

To answer the specific question, your legally allowable tyre sizes that best match the stock wheel diameter are:

255/40 R18 (this would be ideal from a tyre performance perspective)
285/35 R18 (this is as wide as you can go, and is really a bit too wide for the wheel)

Reasonable options would also be:

235/40 R18 (this is as narrow as you can go, so it's the most likely to avoid your arches)
245/40 R18 (this is probably a better compromise between fitment and performance)
265/40 R18
275/35 R18

That's pretty much all of your options. Make sure you fit the same tyres all round, otherwise your traction control system will get very upset.

#### ALL OF THE ABOVE IGNORES THE ARCH FOULING PROBLEM #####
And, as WarpC0il said, any tyre fitted to those wheels is probably going to hit your arches. If you roll your arches then you can probably fit any of the above tyres up to about 255 wide. Any wider than that and even rolled arches may not save you.

Well I made a call and there was a issue with what I was sent they are going back and being changed as the PCD is wrong so the new wheels same size but the off set is now 40 instead of 35
So I think 245 is the tyre I will probably go for.

Thanks for the comments
