OBD-2 WIFI Adapter

Post by matt_banks » Mon Jul 16, 2012 2:00 pm

Hi all,

I bought one of [urlw=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wifi-device-O ... 4ab7c88915]THESE[/urlw] but I'm having trouble getting it to work with my iphone. I've tried Rev and Dashcommand but can't get it to connect properly.

Anyone have one that they've set up OK? It shows a communication but doesn't connect for long...

I have plans to properly integrate it if I can get a stable connection set up.

Hi Matt, I have something that looks the same (PLX KIWI wifi) and it works perfectly with Rev on the iPhone ... But I'm not sure if it is exactly the same, though it certainly looks it to me from the picture.

I'll check and see if I still have the instructions, as I just set it up exactly as they suggested and off it went

Well, couldn't find the box but the instructions (and they're blissfully short and accurate!) can be found here http://www.plxdevices.com/support/manuals/KiwiWifi.pdf

Let us all know how you get on.

Hey thanks for finding those out for me... there is still a connection issue. I can get the green tick to appear after about 1/2 hour of it trying, then when I click on gauges or codes it loses connection again!

so I am assuming it's one of three things.
1. It's because my iphone is jailbroken.
2. there is a break/loose connection in the wifi device.
3. theres a loose connection on my OBD port

I will have a look at the wifi device on sat but as all lights are flashing and I can connect to my phone I don't know if it's broken or just cheap crap lol

Hi mate, I have one of these, it took a bit of time to get it up and working. It was to do with what ports you use. Need to match up etc etc. I will have a look this weekend in more detail. Unfortunately as I had my phone stole I cannot tell you off the top of my head.

Iv not forgotten, just found the bit of paper I had written down. It was more trial and error matching up the IP addresses (not ports as mentioned before). I ended up using 192.168.0.11 or 12
255.255.255.0
and then 192.168.0.10 Port 35000

Make sure you pick the right software, that is on the dev on your phone its the Kiwi.

Il hopefully get my new phone tomorrow which Il need to set up again, when I do il write down what I done a bit more effectively!

The RX-8 has "a useful feature" that many have discovered...

If you leave your phone in the car with the WiFi enabled, there's a very good chance that it will trigger the internal movement alarm.

To avoid this, either
  • - take the phone with you
    - switch WiFi off on the phone
    - switch off the internal alarm using the fourth button on the fob, shortly after locking the car.
