Green induction kit

Post by j12tse » Sat Dec 16, 2006 11:10 pm

Hi everyone, Im aware of the problems with certain induction kits on the Rx-8 and that alot don't really favour them but I just wondered if anyone had heard much about the 'Green' Induction kit available :-

ebay

Moderator: long url hidden - hold the mouse over the URL button to see how.

If anyone has any knowledge of this product would be most appreciated,
I have heard they are good for other cars but not sure about the Rx-8.

Thanks, Dan :)

Hi Dan
Have had mine fitted for about 4 weeks or so.
looks great.
noise on tick over wild
normal motoring sounds excellent .......
mid revs ...... look at those heads turn. you don't need a wide exhaust with this bably

take her to the beep......... PUT you ear muffs on   all i can say is that i only take her to the beep now on rare occasions which isn't good.

as for fuel well still a little undecided not really monitored at the start as all i was doing was flooring it and looking at the heads twitch

last week though only got 166 miles on full tank but short journeys so not to sure if the kit has anything to do with it. i have posted a thread to ask the question.

if your up for the meet on the 30th up our way then you can hear for yourself. or ask Lexx.
cheers.

TBH and truthfull
i looked at fitting it myself as was told that a non mechanic can do it with in an hour. :o
but when i saw the pipes etc i thought no way tooooo risky.

so took it to a local specialist who only charged 41 quid :P cool.

mine is the older version to yours though so the sound may be different, also does it come with the protection box???????

folks say that i don't need a borla now. but i may get sick of the noise. but not yet any how

60 second job, Chrome strip (smaller width) from Halfords, cut to correct length and inserted on it's side so not flat into the groove of the triangle, really easy and effective IMO if you need any more help etc just ask, Thanks

I fitted the K&N panel filter & saw an increase of 0.75mpg, the old filter was only 5 months old so it wasn't clogged. You can hear it too, it has the same noise just a bit louder higher up the rev range. You get the best of both worlds & it's way cheaper

I can imagine that something which causes more induction noise might make people use less right foot and thus less fuel; the "sounds faster" effect.

Be very careful about anything that hasn't been exhuastively tested and comes recommended. The original K&N Typhoon for example was on sale for 9 months before they pulled it, caused stalling at idle, jerky acceleration etc

The only replacement air box I'd have considered is the Racing Beat REVi with ram air intake.

To get resonable results you have to remove the VFAD secondary air intake that hangs down to the left of the engine. This produces the rasping sound between 6 and 7K RPM before the 3rd port opens. It adds an extra air path which increases intake force.

The ECU is setup to know this and so will inject more fuel to keep the A/F ratios correct.

Have a read of the description of what RB did (www.racingbeat.com) when producing the REVi and the research and development that went into it. They claim a modest 2-3 bhp from it, this seems about right and I'd be warry of anyone claiming anything more than this, given that RB have been tuning rotaries for years and know their stuff.

Oh Dear. Oh very dear.

As someone running the Racing Beat Revi & Ram Air Duct, I thought I'd add my 2p's worth about induction kits in addition to Druck and Orbist's sensible responses.

The fact is that the stock system is an extremely well designed, very efficient unit that cannot be significantly improved upon without getting into forced induction.

So why did I splash out on the RB system? Well, at the time, I had some spare cash burning a hole in my pocket and, as a keen 8 owner, the idea of improving the car's performance appealed. However, a chav-mobile was not what I was after.

The RB system is an exceptionally well engineered and quality unit, produced by one the best rotary engine specialists you'll find and thoroughly tested. As a single modification, you won't drive away thinking you've had an extra engine added - the difference is subtle and, in many people's perfectly fair view, not much to shout about. In my experience, it provides a moderate performance improvement, with low and mid-range pull being that little bit better. Also, whilst there is a deeper aural tone to events, the noise is pleasant and refined and it is a joy to take the car to the beep, which I do on every journey.

As part of a program of changes though, it does add value - in my case, combined with the high-flow cat, exhaust and lightened flywheel, my 8 is that bit nippier than stock. I've had the system for a year now, without any hic-ups.

The RX8 is a unique vehicle with an incredibly smooth engine that likes and indeed needs to be revved to the redline on a regular basis. It is utter madness to dump the stock intake system for some cheap and cheerful bolt-on that splits your ear-drums before you even get to the best part of owning the car and to do so in order to make people's heads turn misses the point of the car completely. You don't need an 8 to impress the kind of person impressed by intake noise - you need a Corsa, a trip to Ripspeed and a local shopping centre car park.

No offence intended to Speedy36, whose enthusiasm for the car cannot be faulted, but his kit seems like hanging furry dice inside a Ferrari.

Sermon over. Merry Christmas :xmaswink:

Cheers.

Steve
TBH unless you want to ruin th esound of your georgeous BORLA then don't fit it.
not sure on the one you have got or any other members have but mine although great at the start got a bit to much especially taking her to the beep and also long distance motorway travel

byt hey ETTO..

anyway i know its only a replacement for the std filter but other than lasting longer are there any other benefits to the K&N over others.

cheers on this and i know BIG JON will make me suffer for this!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Green Stuff Induction kit now for SALE

i know i have probably dissed it and put a few or all of you off  but each to their own i say. i know a few members that have other induction kits and they seem to be loader than this one.

i am open to any reasonable offer as previously mentioned. the kit has only had 1k approx mileage. this is not guarrenteed but it is very clean and has been handled with care.

Realistically i would like in the region of £80.00 and would consider that inc.P&P if that price met.

cheers any how.
