Replacement Exhaust Tips

Post by j12tse » Sat Dec 16, 2006 12:20 am

OK Im no boy racer or anything like that but I really would like bigger exhaust tips, I know the best thing would be to buy a new system but Im worried about my warranty as the dealers near me seem to think it would void it, also price and no performance gain makes me wonder why I should bother.
Then the other option is to have some bigger tips welded on to the original exhaust by a pro but again Im not sure about messing with the O.E.
So my question is does anybody know of some exhaust tail pipes that can be bolted on (which I know Saxo/focus boy racers do) but will fit around the medium sized RX8 standard exhaust as the ones in local car shops don't?

If anyone could help I would really appreciate it, Thanks alot, Dan :)

If you're trying to avoid replacing the full system, pretty much any Custom Exhaust outfit will change your tail pipes for you.
Though remember its a fidly job, and can sometimes take as long as replacing the full system.

Have a word with http://www.mijperformance.com they should be able to help you. Be sure to explain over the phone that you only want new tips and not a full system. They'll be sure to give you one of best quotes around.

Mazda used to do a "sports" exhaust for the RX-8.

Made by a geman company possibly sebring can't remember. It is not notably nosier by any standards and no boasted hp increase so keeps the insurance company happy as it's not a performance accesory and is alos an officail option for the car. It is alluminium and has bigger tips too but these are not polished. I had one on mine and I got the tips polished at my own expense at a pro metal workshop before having it fitted.

My new exhaust tail ends

Post by j12tse » Sat Dec 23, 2006 5:06 pm

I really wanted larger exhaust tips but didn't want to change the whole system, I found these stainless steel tail ends and fitted them, I'm really happy with them, You can see the original exhaust pipe but this doesn't bother me as some exhausts do have an inner pipe also it will probably turn black as I won't be cleaning the original one so it will probably be less noticable, Anyway I'm sure it won't be something alot of you would like to do but thought I'd show you as it really does fill the large gap. :)

Excuse the poor photo as it was off my camera phone.

looks ok mate but not my thing...IMO.
you could have done with a side shot aswell though to see how they protrude. they look a bit like a probe's exhaust to me. i would rather go for the real thing but like you i suppose its a BIG expense!!!!!.
i'm sure you'll still turn the heads though :P

Looks OK to me nothing wrong with a bit of individualism - I`m sure many an RX-8 will be following you with the driver wondering :-k where you got the big bore exhaust from.

Looks ok to me ... not a lot different from the 6 MPS, that's also got "false" tips.

Looks ok to me, IMO......... makes your car individual  .

Don't know if you'll have the money mar-apr next year (about 500) but I'm looking at ordering a Borla catback system, so if your interested keep your eyes peeled about then, as the more you order the cheaper it all becomes.

In your first picture they look abit like PZ pipes - not bad for a budget price.

Looks very good.
I bought the RB exhaust for the sound too, but the insurers charge me £50 extra too.

Nice idea!

Exhaust Tips

Post by Soul » Thu Apr 02, 2009 9:22 am

Dogsnuts, you know we were talking about exhausts last night and I said I've seen some tips that you can just add to the standard exhaust? Well I found them:

http://www.mazdarotaryparts.com/bfe-ex0 ... 1086-p.asp

Hard to tell what diameter they are, but might be worth getting until I can afford a new system....

Don't do it! [-X It will give it the straight out of Halfrauds/Ripspeed look, its probably better to stay stock until you can afford the new system, Just my opinion :)

Yeah I did wonder about that. It actually looks ok in the photo, but my heart does think 'noooooo'. Trouble is the standard tips just look so tiny in my MS rear :(

Why not have a look at a custom exhaust place, ask them about cutting the tips of and weldding some bigger tips on as long as its done well shouldn't look out of place, I know its a little bit of a rehash, but it should be a reasonably cheap job to do!

Do the standard exhausts not come with chrome tail pipes? My car only has the standard exhaust (I think) but it has chrome tail pipes, not sure if they are part of the system or bolted on though, either way they make the back end look good being bigger and shiney!
