Starting to update and list my mods and where from with actual real world reviews.

9" quad core Android 14 for Mazda rx8 RX-8 GPS Headunit Carplay 2009-2012

Well, fantastic. This one I ordered, from China and arrived in the UK quicker than parcelforce could get it from the airport to my house (and they messed the first delivery up with one of those phantom your not in emails, yet I was and no one showed up)....

Luckily the seller was on point as they had recieved a delivery failure notice and I was able to sort my end sharpish and got it the next day after a chat with parcelforce....

Install, not my bag, I don't do electrics. However I know a Yorkshire man that does. Que an overnight stop in Wales and aptly enough a Chinese takeaway later with beer and we had stripped (royal we) had stripped the interior, dome the necessary wiring and clipped in the new unit. From what I understand of the electronics, Harry made it look easy and other than splicing one wire on the harness, in it went and perfect start up.

The unit is rapid, so much quicker than any other Android Auto I have in my other cars, not sure whether that's because this one is a wired version with a USB cable routed into the armrest compartment and the others are wireless but this is instant and smooth. Even Harry was impressed with how quick and reactive the screen was. On top now that it has Netflix, car reader software to wireless link obd I am assuming though not done and about 3 pages of stuff I've not managed to go through completely. However, awesome.

That was the test run, Android Auto worked perfectly so we went for the full final fit. Again, the surround looks oem and is good quality. We did trim 2 of the clip nibs slightly to get a better fit of the spring clips, likely from a slight oversize of reproducing from a mould but that was seconds with a pair of snips. Perfect fitting spring clips pushed down then.

We then clipped the fascia with the Android unit in place for the final time and that was that. Easy enough for a DIY install, very minor modifications of the fascia and wiring. On top of that, all the steering wheel controls work for volume and track skip etc. Absolutely what I wanted. Harry said there is a very slight duplication of the bass boost feedback or something, like a dodgy tune on a radio station. But this is only noticeable if you have it on low with the engine off. As soon as engine is on, and it's at volume to hear over idle you can't notice.

I called Harry via the hands free and all good, he didn't even notice I was in the car to start with (this was the next day when playing with it).....

So it's been in about a month now. Car is taxed and so far I've done 4 hrs in it today with it working perfect, navigating on Android Auto with a nice big screen to follow amd perfect control of audio via Amazon music.

This was unbelievable value and I'm really happy. Takes 10 years off the age of the car and is bang up to date with modern cars. And actually I'm happy the Android Auto is wired unlike my other cars, as it actually charges and I only use this on long drives to shows normally. So that's ideal as the merc wireless Android kills my battery on a journey and end up plugging in to charge anyway?

Review so far 5/5.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but I'm thinking about getting one of these to install, however I am completely clueless about car electronics.

Are the instructions that come with it clear about which wire needs splicing?

If I go through with it I'll try and post a guide on how to do it if anyone would be interested in that

Its a game changer to the car, I had help from Harsc as I have no idea about electrics, but he made it look simple enough.
