RRP Sump & Racing Beat Decat Advice

Post by AshtonCox58 »

Hi all,

Just a quick question, Over the weekend I've been fitting a fair few RRP bits to the car and some other neat little goodies. I'm not quite sure everything is ok though and just wondered if anyone can confirm if the below is ok;

The RRP Sump appears to be very very close to the oil pickup, Once everything was fitted out of curiosity I had a look in the drain plug of the sump and the oil pickup was extremely close to the bottom of the sump/drain plug. I know that it should be fairly low but it just seems almost too low/starve the pickup and I'm just not sure how much space there should be.

Secondly I attempted to fit a Racing beat decat, and it doesn't feel quite right, firstly I am waiting for some new rearward bolts, nuts, and springs etc because the old ones were only a tad rusty :D , but also it feels like I am having to pull the catback quite taught to front of the car to get everything to fit, almost as if the decat is too small. I haven't experienced anything with swapping cats before and I'm not sure if its normal or not.

I would appreciate any advice or pointers if I have gone wrong anywhere.
TIA,
Ashton.

I went with a Chinese pipe for about 70 quid as a quick fix for going on track as I didn't wan to cook the cat. It fit fine without what your describing, and still use it. That was about 3 years ago.

Regarding the sump, the best reassurance would be to contact RRP directly

Do you have the front bolts loose when trying to marry up the decat and catback?

I'd say to try and measure the actual gap between sump bottom and pick using some plasticine, so then add a blob bolt up the sump with a couple of bolts and then remove to measure the plasticine thickness

then you need to measure the diameter of the pickup to work out the 'curtain' area of this gap
providing that this area is more 1.3 x than the pickup -pipe area then you're OK

I did try a few different ways, but currently awaiting some new nuts for the rear, whichever way I did it just seemed that either way it had to be pulled taught towards the engine.

the back box and mid pipe are rubber mounted and quite often stick in the wrong place (comparatively) so a different exhaust or cat causes a gap. a good yank of the exhaust forwards usuall moves it and has it happy to settle in a different place.
