Gauges - Sandwich Plate and Water Temp Sensor Adaptor

Post by Ninja_Freak » Mon May 20, 2019 2:42 pm

Hi Folks,

Whilst I'm waiting (anxiously!!) for my gauge pod from Block8head Custom Vent Pods to arrive from the States, I'm about to press the button to order the gauges for my PZ.

I've gone with the three-gauge vent pod and the usual standards of Water Temp, Oil Temp and Oil Pressure. I'm going for the ProSport EVO LCD 60mm series. (in for a penny...).

My question is on adaptors.

Sandwich Plate - There seems to be different sizes? I know the connection to the gauges themselves will be the 1/8th NPT variety. But there seems to be different types / heights of adaptors. I've looked on the forums and I can't seem to find the defacto size etc.

Water Temp - Again there are different options here. The idea of slicing through a rad hose to stick an adaptor in the middle doesn't excite me. Is the version for the Heater Hose OK? (I think it's 30mm) Will it give an reasonably accurate reading?

Apologies if this has been discussed here before. I couldn't find what I was looking for. Thanks in advance for your help / advice.

I have my water temp gauge spliced into heater hose, the thing with gauges is you can see when things change. My gauge reads 10c below what the ecu see's, that could be a gauge issue or location issue but there important thing is I know what's happening which is the important thing.
If you want to know exactly what's happening you should have a minimum of one sensor before and one after the rad.
Sandwich plate I was going to use a racing beat one but found one in a cupboard I've had from years and is a generic eBay one and works fine. Again it's not best location but you can see when things change!

The heater hose adapter is fine on the 8 because the heater matix is always in-circuit; cabin heat being controlled by air re-direction.

This is unlike many cars that have a valve on the heater matrix coolant flow.
