D585 Coils

Post by Rostyghost » Wed Nov 07, 2018 4:48 pm

Hi everyone

Hopefully you're all doing well. (:

Now that my bracket is done, wiring harness is on the way and sparkies are nearly brand new having covered about 3k miles, I think it's time for me to obtain D585 coils. Having done my initial research, it's nearly impossible to get AC Delco ones locally (UK), can either get them from Greece or from USA.
The ones from Greece for some reason make me wonder why they are so cheap (£150 delivered), because even getting them from USA costs just about that if not more. There are a few options of getting them from Australia for dirt cheap price of around £110 for four of them, seller says that there is a lifetime guarantee applies to them should they be used accordingly, but they are made by company I never heard of previously - Gamma Electric. Canadian ebay offers Delphi coils at approximately £250 delivered. It is not too expensive, but I'm convinced that AC Delco are the ones to go for, unless I'm proven wrong.

So, I just wonder if anyone has an experience of sourcing D585 coils elsewhere and maybe give me an advice or a tip where to get them from if there any any better offers.

Thanks. (:

Or you could go for the RRP mk2 coil packs!

If you want to go for 585’s then I would just go to Rotary Revs for them. You will be getting genuine coils and if you ever need to make a warranty claim ( I have just had one fail) as they are not infallible it would seem. Then you are dealing with a company in this country, not some Greek or Aussie guy. How long would that take to sort out?

Or as mentioned above get on the Ryan Rotary coils group buy :thumright:
Autoexe lightweight flywheel
RR D585 coils and Magnecor leads.
Hayward rebuilt ported engine with ceramic apex seals
Remap by Rotary Motion
20mm Eibach spacers
Bilstein/Eibach B12 Pro kit
Refurbed engine mounts
Yellowstuff and Redstuff pads
Exedy clutch
Black diamond discs

agreed
I'm eagerly awaiting mine but even out of offer they promise to be about the £250-300 mark and should be a better part than the 585's

As said above personal import guarantees are basically worthless due to the time and costs for shipping the product back to the supplier.
Buying in the UK may cost a little more but it makes any potential warranty much simpler to process.
Also as the coils are not specified as RX8 coils by AC and Delphi they could cite "incorrect application of product" and reject any warranty claim.
Finally AC Delco and Delphi are hugely counterfeited brands across their entire product ranges and only by buying from an official outlet can you ensure your getting genuine product.

On the question of why the Greek ones may be cheap .... quite a while back several members bought what they were assured and believed were 'genuine Mazda coils' from someone with 'a good reputation' etc in Greece. They were all very happy with their bargains - until after a while and one by one they all failed. I don't think any of them made a successful warranty claim.

Similarly bought cheap plugs from Greece.

Some turned out to be fake.

I complained on eBay.

They said they've never had any complaints.

Check their feedback, sure enough a complaint about fake RX-8 coils.

I return them.

They close the case while in transit.

They no longer respond to my messages.

See Thems Next Tuesdays.

Yes. Stnt's, they lot of them.

^^^ .. plus I very much doubt you would be getting the "genuine" article at £150 posted, as Chris & Nick state, these are the most counterfeited brands :(

Looks quite interesting! I'd jump on them, but it makes my custom bracket pointless. I sort of enjoy making things up myself (as long as I know if they fail it won't terminate the engine :D).

How much did you pay for them?

They are £270 use stock Ht leads and are generally just better than the 585s

Thanks a lot for your responses, gents.

That's the feeling I had about the Greek seller on ebay. I also noticed he sells pattern coils there, so probably he isn't that aware of what should go on RX-8's and what shouldn't. Aussie guys also changed their advert since I requested a bit more information from them.

I spoke to RotaryRevs yesterday, and ETA for their coils is 8 weeks and price is fair. I think I'll probably wait for them. Warranty claims are way easier to handle from within UK really, although I think that genuine AC Delcos will probably outlive my car...

But, meanwhile I managed to find AC Delco and Delphi distributor in USA: https://herko.com/Retail/
They ship parts abroad too, so just to keep myself entertained I might do a bit of a research about them. Maybe if they do genuine stuff, I might try to see what's the best deal they can do.
