Are all metra kits created equal?

Post by Harrymonk » Wed Feb 07, 2018 12:27 pm

Looking around and not many for sale here so I am looking at the kit below, with relatives inbound from the states was wondering if this would still work over here.

I know many american derivatives had manual ac but the ad states climate control ? Any advice welcome.

That is the part number for auto climate control, see Metra's site here.
Get a vendor to confirm so that you at least have the option of returning it.

The link says "This kit works with vehicles that use manual climate control" so no, it might not work with automatic climate control i.e. as fitted to all UK-spec 8s

Dave, which link? Mine to the part number on Metra’s site says it is compatible (“Now compatible with auto climate control . . . “).

This, of course, is for buying new. Buying a used one from the US is too risky.

That wording is confusing. The previous paragraph says it works with air con controls, as does Metra’s catalogue. Working with manual doesn’t mean it won’t work with air con, and it doesn’t say ‘manual only’. The reviews suggest it works with air con, albeit with a fiddly set-up, and the instruction manual has an air con picture and an air con write-up.

I suspect Metra have upgraded the kits so the one works with both manual heating and air con.

This all reinforces the need for the OP to check with the dealer.

All true, its the fact that the manual linked on the site details the statement below:

Note: If the vehicle is equipped with automatic climate
controls, start the vehicle and hold the “AUTO” button
for 10 seconds to program the climate controls.

This is as detailed on the metra site as well. Was going to check but was afraid I would get the usual, yeah ! you'll be fine response :-k

Apparently it will work, so will take a gamble and if no good can send it back with my folks to return it. Will update when it happens.

Funny enough I have pencilled in to fit it next week, there were some other interior bits i wanted to sort at the same time as taking the stereo out so have been waiting for some bits.

Will post an update as soon as I have :thumright:

A quick FYI. In case anyone is looking to fit a Chinese android head unit then the facia from metra doesn't fit. The android units whilst double din, need an opening larger than standard double din from alpine, pioneer etc. Facials are available seperatrly on ebay etc which fit the Chinese units, it's just an extra cost.
