I've got Federal RSR's 235/40/18 on the trackday S1 and will putting Avon ZZ5 245/35/19's on the R3 when the current Falkens that came with it are toast. Mind you it has only covered 1,500 miles in 7 months so it maybe a while!

I'm with you on this one Goobie. I'd pay the extra for the Michelins, over the Avons every time.... In fact if I was only doing 1500 miles in seven months I'd probably put a set of Pirelli Troffeo Rs (or Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s) on it, and really make the most of those weekends!

Good point well made.
However I very rarely drive it with the other cars at my disposal and I think the next set of tyres will probably go off before they where out!
The Mrs who is the main driver of the R3 really likes Avons since she had them on previous cars.
I have never driven on Trffeo's, I have driven on Michelin Cup 2's and whilst really good in the dry probably too grippy with very little ability to adjust the rear I found them to be unpredictable and almost scary in the wet!
Never driven Pilot 4's which maybe a good all weather compromise but Michelins always seem overpriced to me.

I didn't think you can get Trofeo R's in RX8 sizes.

You can get 235/40R18 and 245/40R18.

The 235s are slightly smaller diameter then OE size, but close enough. The 245s can be fitted to OE wheels, but are better on 8.5" or 9" wheels.

I saw a Seat Leon with semi-slicks on the front, lying upside down in a ditch a couple of months ago.

However, I don't think they were meant to be semi-slicks and may well have contributed to the situation...
