Looking good.

I'm going to revisit mine again soon, just parts of lights strung all around the workshop... #-o

I forget if the little rotor cutout hole on the HID bezel is for a practical reason or if its just there for looks... can someone remind me? Can I block it up if I need to?

As far as I can see, it serves no purpose at all.

Looks quite cool though, a little type of easter egg that most would miss unless they press their nose against the lights.

I used VHT anodised paint on mine a couple of years back and the sun has changed the colour from red to copper so it's worth putting down a couple of coats of UV protective clearcoat over the lenses, I didn't but probably will this year before summer to stop it getting any worse.
IMG_20190217_154951.jpg
I also fitted demon eyes to mine and then bought a cheap (£2.99) remote to hang it on the keyring instead of the big keypad that came with it, it's got a massive range of around 200 meters.

Damn... Definitely going to do this to the set of headlights I take off the car and clean up. I would love some Halo's but I don't think there are any in a convinient RX8 size. :(

I used some generic 5050 strip red LED's glued to the inside of the light shroud and this 12v rf driver, total cost for both the lights was around a fiver

70mm halo is what you require for main beam projector, or at least that's what I have, but I've faced them backwards to give a demon eye effect

Body colour is normal (I went purple because the cars already silver) but its good to carry a theme through the car with colours, you could go stealth and do them black, you could delete altogether. At the end of the day it's customised to your likes. I've seen some that are neon green and some neon orange, they could look good on a black car

I would go purple but the cars obviously currently VR still... Future plans down the line to have it sprayed Midnight Purple 2. (Because ooft) But it'd look odd having purple headlights right now. Might go gun metal or maybe black. I'll have the second set for doing other things with anyway. :p

If you do go purple with a future set, I might be able to find a home for the gunmetal or black set ;)

I've got next week off work so weather permitting my plans are to clean my spare callipers up and clean up my better pair of headlights before taking the set on the car off the car to dismantle/tinker with.

So just finished the install, wasn't happy with routing power to side lights and didn't want to hook directly to the battery, without having a way to isolate and protect things, so made a little enclosure up with a latching switch (with purple Led) and a 3 amp a fuse, the picture isn't the best as its raining and daylight but this is what we have

Much too tidy, needs more duct tape and bare wires, for the authentic feel.

The halos point backwards towards the lens (so the lens lights up) but if you turn on the headlights they are no longer visible, they are rgb so can be changed to white, but also are run independently from any lighting circuit.

Hrrm I spoke to a police contact a few months back. Regarding color to the front. No blue, no red, no green, only amber for indicators.
White has to be white max 6k Kelvin
I asked about purple and he said there is nothing to say purple is breaking any law.
The headlights must be white but purple rings are not against the law.
Worst case scenario is you are issued a ticket and it would be up to the courts to decide whether they can enforce it.
To be precise, beacons are a no, coloured blue, red and green beacons are a no. Non white 6k+ are a no. Any thing else is up to the courts to decide.

Bro, I love it! Looks great Image

------------------------
This is from PNLD 20/08/2019 regarding my query about my blue badges

In our opinion such lights would not be lawful but if a vehicle is fitted with non-standard parts, it will ultimately be a matter for a court to decide whether the parts are lawful or not.

Regulation 16 of the Road Vehicles (Lighting) Regulations 1989 provide that no vehicle, other than an emergency vehicle, shall be fitted with a blue warning beacon or special warning lamp, or a device which resembles a blue warning beacon or a special warning lamp, whether the same is in working order or not. Additionally, regulation 4 provides that 'fitted' includes lamps which are masked over and those without wiring.

There’s no problem with you including the information on your club information area but please could you make it clear that the response is from PNLD.

We hope this information is of use.
