DCS (traction control button)

Post by Project-RX8 »

Is the traction control button a off / on type button.

Or is it a momentary type button?

If i was to replace the button with a toggle switch i'm going on the basis it's a press and hold button rather than a simple off n on then i would replace with a toggle switch that springs back to off position. momentary type.

Pressing it partly turns off the aids
Pressing and holding for 8 secs turns everything off

It's a momentary button, the "latch" is within the PCM logic, and works as Pete says.

This often confuses people, as the system defaults to "On" when starting, this includes if you were to stall the engine after a spin and restarted.

If you hold the button in when the system is doing it's preflight checks, this results in an EML and can result in a partial limp mode (limited to map used when wheel spin is detected)

I know we have discussed this before but I don't think we ever got to a conclusion in knowing the difference between off and holding for 8secs and fully off? Is it just a safety feature in that if held the pcm detects a fault and does not allow it to be switched back on until restart or is it truly a two stage system? If so what is the definitive difference between the two stages?

My understanding was the following:

- Press: DSC will re-arm if ABS is triggered
- Hold: DSC Remains off until ignition is cycled

I now have this working off a toggle switch.

Thanks for the info regarding press and press and hold.

Because I will be using off or on I wired to a off/on toggle switch. It’s only wire wire from the switch and all you do is earth it.

So my switch is effectively holding the button in when to switch it, then wired to a led on dash as a indicator it’s switched.
