Er, I had a look on page 2 picture 4, and I haven't got a clue what you mean. Have I missed something? #-o

Hmm, my firmware is 10.01. I assume this won't work with my stereo then :(

Assuming not, any suggestions on the best alternative?

Nope, it will only work with firmware between 9.55 and 9.99 mate :(

Darn, it looks like such a neat solution too. So I have a later car and yet have less options for MP3 support

After trying everyone`s past solutions on every thread regarding copied cd`s Iv decided also the Connect2 is a must.. Luckily Original cd`s work fine in my Bose so getting this would be great to have my own mix too!! Will get this sorted early next year what with xmas round the corner... Great write up Davey!! =D>

Just a reminder to anyone thinking of buying one of these:
Despite what they say in the advert, this device will NOT work with firmware 9.81 (or 10.01).

Nice one wavey, another happy customer for this thread! You do have to have slender fingers to go through the glove box though... i swore a little i think but found it doable and preferable to having the whole console out. Thanks again mate.

Glad it helped mate, and must admit I did a bit of swearing as well trying to line up the connector. Still, I think removing the head unit with my limited skills might have been a recipe for disaster, so a few minutes fiddling is definitely the better option!

waveydavey wrote: Fitting was fairly straightforward, just a bit fiddly because I decided to leave the stereo unit in place rather than taking it out. The connector is accessible by removing the glovebox and reaching in behind. I found the female connector on the back of the stereo quite easily by using my fingertips, it is next to the aerial cable. The difficult part is lining up the male connector straight enough to click it in. Things are very tight in there, so you might need a few attempts to get them lined up. The bayonet part needs to be facing down,...
A bit fiddly [-X

I spent 15 minutes poking about and couldn't even find the socket.

Pauline then spent 1/2 hour upside-down with her head under the dash and her feet over the back of the seat. She managed to find the socket but there was no way she could get the plug to locate.

Probably doesn't help that it's -5C out there so the cables are stiff and our fingers started stiff and ended numb.

Anyway, I'll try again tomorrow but this time I'll leave a fan heater running inside the car for an hour first :!:

It's got to be better than dismantling the centre console etc...

Think Davey was extremely fortunate to "find the hole"!

I fumbled around for ages before admitting defeat and dismantling the console - it was easier than I expected: the video guide is really excellent. Worth it in the end - I removed the CD unit (completely knackered), removed my CD's which were trapped & didn't bother putting it back when reassembling the rest.

Well - I've got mine at last - a very welcome birthday present. Now I don't have to kneel in the snow in sub-zero temperatures, I'll have a go at fitting. Only question is - how many knuckled will be skinned?
There once was a man from Essex,

He ordered an 8,
and had to wait,
But when it arrived, said "tis better than sex is".

I estimate 1 or 2 skinned knuckles, and maybe up to 6 swear words before the connector slots in. I recommend walking away for a coffee if you don't get it connected in under a minute, then go back and try again. I think I got it sorted after 2 attempts. It probably took about 5 mins, but felt like more, ha ha!

I left a fan heater running in the passenger footwell for a while to make the existing cables easier to move, not helped by the mass of extras for the Nokia hands-free unit, tried poking about and swearing but that didn't work.

Went in for coffee and came out armed with a Pauline.

10 minutes later it's all sorted and working.

Result!

Oh, and I take back all the nasty things I was saying about you Davey....

I don't think so.

The description is pretty bad ("refer to note 4") but it looks like the type that plugs into the ExtCD port on the back of the head unit. This port is disabled with firmware 9.81 and 10.01.

Thank you for this, I'd stupidly labelled the folders "1", "2", "3", etc and wondered why it didnt work. Changed it to CD01, CD02, etc and bosh! Quality from the connect2 is impressive :D
