Spoiler loose

Post by MazdaDaz »

Hi all,

As some of you will know I have just bought an 08 plate 231bhp. It seems mostly in really good nick, but the spoiler on the boot lid is very loose.

What's the best way to refix it?

TIA

That's quite unusual, never heard of that. It looks like a pz spolier in the pics so maybe it's been retrofitted and possibly not well.

I would remove it personally, clean up area, add something like tigerseal as sealant and then use new nylock style nuts. Assuming it's attached the same as an R3.

It is a PZ spoiler but I don't think it's actually a PZ model. I'm out atm but will try to get some photos up soon to show what I mean.

I retrofitted a PZ spoiler to my car, many years ago.

From memory the centre supports are just glued on, the two outer supports are glued on AND should have a bolt through from inside the boot lid on each side. If you open the boot and look each side, you should see where there have been 2 holes drilled in the lid inner skin, to insert the bolts. It could be they need tightening or, I' wondering if the installer cheated and simply glued all four struts on?

Yeah centre ones were glued on on my 40th and the outers bolted on with a bit of glue as well. I second tiger seal, my R magic rep is held on with this and 4 bolts and it won't budge, I know other places that hold similar spoilers on other cars with just tiger seal

Yep, I used Tiger Seal on my spoiler, plus I have used it many times to securely fix items together. Fantastic adhesion.

Well its not a PZ so the spoiler may have just been glued on - me thinks it needs some screws as well if it hasn`t got any, you really wouldn`t want to be following at 70 mph if it came off! :-k

I've been looking online, and as qwaker recommended above have ordered myself some M3 double sided tape. Will give the area a good clean & then give this a go & see if it does the trick.
