Bit of advice/guidance needed!

Post by Cscameron »

Have done a bit of Googling and have searched on here but am struggling to find what I’m after

I need to remove the front seat pads so I can re-trim them. I’ve found the breakdown which is great but it doesn’t actually say how they are attached

Basically does anyone know if they just clip in like the rear seats or if I need to remove them altogether and there is a plethora of bolts I’ll need to undo??

Thanks for the help in advance 😘

Are you referring to how the front seats are attached to the car? If so then it’s by 4 bolts, move the seat fully back then remove the two front bolts first. Move the seat fully forward and disconnect the battery. Do something else for 15 minutes then unplug the air bag and seat belt sensor connectors. This is easier if you prise them off the frame first. Remove the rear two bolts and summoning all your strength lift the seat out. The electric seats are seriously heavy.

Apologies! I guess the covers are retained by hooks between the frame and steel rods in the edges of the covers. Easier to prize of than fit back again from distant memories on other cars.

No worries 😊 hoping someone’s done it before and can point me in the right direction so I don’t destroy them trying

I recall someone opening the seat pads to replace the heater elements and said it can't be done with the seats in the car.

If you have to remove the complete seat and then disassemble.

Thanks for that. I’ve had a look at the manual but didn’t really help, just shows how many separate pieces there are and not how to take them apart/put them back together

I’ll give it a go with the seats in the car and see what happens. If I need to take the seats out I will, if not I’ll report back just in case anyone needs to know in the future

I'm pretty sure you can remove the front seat bases with the seats in place. They are bolted to the rails from underneath, and iirc you just have to position the seat fully forwards to get to the front two bolts and back again for the back two. This releases the base frame which is a stamped metal tray and the cushion can then be removed from it.

Thanks Phil. Will try poking around under there and am probably just going to give the back rest a good tug and see if they shift or I can at least see what’s holding them in place (once headrest cover and airbag are disconnected of course)

If you have electric seats then leaning the seat back rearwards before disconnecting the electrics makes it easier to get out.

Save yourself a load of aggravation and just take the seats out as you will never have enough access with them in the car.

Well if just figuring out how to get the cushions out is this hard I doubt I’ll be volunteering to help anyone else 😂

UPDATE!!!! Getting the plastic back rest cover off is actually pretty simple - more so if it was over 20 degrees outside 🥵

Couple of panel clips that were a b***h to get to and….
Image

And underneath there a simple zip and 4 hog rings I only have to remove the cover and not the whole cushion 😁
Image

Small issue after all that is that the airbag is bolted on top of the fabric and believe it or not I’ve lost my 10mm socket so can’t get it off (battery is disconnected so won’t be setting it off) So close and yet so far 😂

Too hot to attempt the base so will do that another day

Looking good there - top job :thumright: Let us know how easy it is for the heating element to come out - if it's not too bad I might hatch a plan for the recaros heh!

Managed to find my 10mm so removed the airbag and found loads more hog rings that are a bit more difficult to get to 🙄 got a couple off then gave up

Will go again tomorrow after work and have a dig around for the heating element 👍

Turns out a bit of destruction and brute force really was the answer 😂
