Replacement Fuses

Post by warpc0il » Thu Feb 05, 2015 3:40 pm

The RX-8 uses two types of fuses, neither of which are widely available, which means that carrying spares could save you from roadside embarrassment, or worse.

The first type is commonly known as "Mini-blade" and, while these can be bought in selection packs, these nearly always includes low rated (2, 3, 4 & 5Amp) fuses that the RX8 doesn't use.

Better to buy just the ratings you need and, better yet, to upgrade to LED Mini-Blade fuses that light-up if they blow, making it much easier to find the right one in the 'box.

List below are linked to items in the AceParts ebay shop, as they are doing a 25% sale.
This selection is for 2 off each of the LED mini blade fuses plus 1 off of the PAL fuses (not including the 120A, which they don't stock [-X )

The selection needed to cover all the circuits would be;
  • Mini-blade
    7.5 x3
    10 x6
    15 x13
    20 x6
    30 x3

the number off each above is the total assuming you wanted to replace all the current mini-blades with LED versions, based on a 231 with heated seats. Note that the packs linked on ebay are 2 off, so you'd only need 3 packs of 10Amp fuses, for example.

192s save a 20Amp, as they don't have the headlight washers
Cloth seats also save a 20Amp

    PAL (J-Type) Slow Blow
    30
    40
    50
    60
    120 (on the battery connector)

Re: Replacement Fuses

Just a quick heads-up.

The 50Amp fuses that came with my order didn't fit.

The packaging is the same as the 30, 40 and 60 Amp versions but the construction is different and they won't fit in the slots in my fusebox.

AceParts sent me a replacement but that was exactly the same and it seems they have an issue with the last batch from their supplier, so all they could do was refund.

The most obvious visual difference is that the rating is moulded on the top rather than printed in white and the connections underneath are different inside.

Anyway, if you've ordered from Aceparts, have a quick check and make sure they fit before slotting them in the "spare" holes.
