Starter motors.

Post by Delanor » Sun Mar 17, 2013 2:47 pm

There are 4 starter motors fitted to the RX-8 denoted by a label on the motor.

N3H1 is the early (03 - 05 years) original 11 tooth motor which turns the engine over at a slower speed.

N3H1-A is the upgraded motor Mazda fitted as a replacement if the owner at the time made a complaint about slow starting.

N3Z1 is the updated more powerful 13 tooth motor fitted (06+ years) by Mazda to overcome the original slow starter motors.

N3R3 is the latest 14 tooth motor as fitted to the R3.

To identify a particular starter motor there should be an ID Tag.
