Latest technology sill repair

Post by Piston&Rotor The Garage »

Now,we have seen a few repairs in our lives but this certainly is in the top three of "wtf"
Lovely red 8 had its sills repaired with expanding foam, filler and paint.
We have punched a few holes and they seem to go deep on both sides so rest assured we are all very excited to remove all the material and see what is underneath😃

Oh wow...

Pics of what it's like under there once you've dug it all out please! Looks like it'll be a messy job to clear that

Maybe the owner lived in an area prone to flooding so decided to add some floatation assistance, foam works quite well on my Caravan down by the R Avon. :thumleft:

Yes.
The intention is to bring it back to its former glory🙂
Believe it or not it does not have too much rust,we have done much much worst so i am puzzled to why this bodging was needed🤷🏻‍♂️

I bet some previous owner saw this on YouTube. Lots of vids there of similar repairs, posted as "good advice" without any sense of irony.

We once had an apprentice who had a few dents in his car and it just so happened his dad had some cement so he mixed some up and used that- it did last for a while until he had an accident and it dropped out.

It was his first car though!

My parents drove a Fiat 2300 Estate in the early 1970's, which was Magnolia coloured with some rust on the sills.

My Father decided he wanted to paint it Yellow, so we were rubbing down the paint prior to respray, when my sander went through the paint to something white and powdery

The tops of both front wings had been "repaired" with Polyfiller and layers of cotton gauze. [-X
We tried the magnet test and there was nothing magnetic for at least a couple of hand spans, both sides.
The lower wings were slightly magnetic, but that turned out to be chicken wire embedded in the Polyfiller #-o

Dad had always used the same garage, that sold him the car, for the MOT's....
