Bucks Breakfast Run *Poll for Thoughts*

Post by SeanP »

In the past - I have organised a couple of "Bucks Breakfast Runs" through the superb Chiltern Hills from South Bucks, usually ending up somewhere near or in Silverstone Circuit - of course for Breakfast with option of Heritage Tour or perhaps now the new Museum...

The Roads are fantastic, the Views are superb, our cars are huge fun, the Company is great, and the Food and / or Tour at the end Excellent! :D 8)

I was so moved after the Snowdonia meet - that I've already reccied a route I've used before - it's SUPERB, despite HS2 and E2W lines tearing up the countryside, closing many roads; the pot-holes weren't that bad either!

Route there
Starting around Chorleywood or Amersham area (A404, easy reach of M25J18 & M40 J2/J4)...

Routes take in some of the most fantastic roads through the Chilterns, passing Chequers, Cuddington (over Aylesbury Vale), Waddesdon Manor, Quainton and a good portion of the A413 north of Aylesbury through Whitchurch, Winslow, Buckingham, Stowe, Dadford and into my favourite backend (secret entrance) to Silverstone...

Stuff to do
We can make a choice for Breakfast and other stuff to do e.g. Silverstone Muesum + Cafe (new venue) or see if the in-field Paddock Cafe / Heritage Tour of the circuit is still available... OR a different final destination for Breakfast (Unfortunately Buddies USA Diner, Towcester is closed) e.g. Super Sausage is nearby - but we'd need to fight off the Hairy Bikers!

Return Route
For those interested - I can plan a return route (because starts near / goes past my house!)... Mostly A413 to Aylesbury and choice of continuing towards Amersham or some of the "Reverse Chequers" route back as well (from Wendover)...

OR "something completely different" because there are MANY, MANY back-roads also tracking the A418ish around Wingrave / Cheddington (Great Train Robbery) / Pitstone / Marsworth towards Tring / Aston Clinton... Also potentially finishing off with the "Reverse Chequers" route from Wendoverish!

Timing
Route driving time is typically about 2 hours - but if we plan in some short stops / rendezvous to regroup could be closer to 2.5-3 hours in total...

Usually something like a 7AM meet-up for a 7.30AM start, and a 10/10.30AM Breakfast...
Depending on whether time in a Museum / Tour; Disbanding / Returning around 12ish or slightly later in the afternoon...

When?
Probably a Saturday (historically been a Sunday) morning.
Need to organise my diary (for other events)... But too close to June? July likely to be a bit busy...
So I'm thinking perhaps mid-late August or Early September?

Organisation / Poll
It WON'T be an official Club Event (unless somebody else does the Club wrangling on my behalf!)...

Examples of past events are:
Breakfast Run March 2015, Buddies USA Diner: viewtopic.php?f=242&t=63311 (but the Route suggested above less direct and a LOT MORE interesting!). (Please note the driving advice too here!).
Breakfast Run March 2014, Silverstone Paddock Cafe & Tour: viewtopic.php?f=242&t=56378 (the run attached is now missing - but the "better" route than above!).

So a few things to decide - and the "less organising" I need to do the better - but I could handle a "list of people" and a "Fixed start time - be there or be square..." (We're all adults)... And perhaps booking a group for Breakfast or Museum (hopefully with a discount)...

But may enlist others to help organise - I can do the superb routes with Google and (maybe if it still works!) TomTom Itineraries!

Comments and Ideas welcome...

Somebody wants a job on Nigels event team.....I can sense it with all these polls ๐Ÿ˜‚

I assume this would be a Sat? If so, i could stay an extra night for it in work, do the run there and continue towards Wales after, there for ive not voted return run but interested in the event.

Yes - deffo a weekend, usually a Saturday... It would be WONDERFUL if you could make it! =D> :D
(Champneys Spa is nearby and plenty of Travelodges etc...) but I'd fall somewhat short of arranging accomodation for anybody!

This is usually run with bear minimum of Organisation and diplomacy (skillz I totally lack!)...

Maybe it should be worded "on xyz date, at abc time I shall be driving from A to B, stopping for breakfast, and driving back. I'll publish a route, and if any adults can make their own way there, following my exhaust fumes, I'd be happy for you to tag along..."

To be honest - it has all worked pretty well, except one couple, who started with "Are there Toilets at the meeting point and stops?" (I don't know / don't care / not even looking - Google is YOUR friend)... Then complained that they got left behind, accused folk of making "dangerous overtakes" (they weren't) when they refused to make progress over 50MPH in the nice NSL Twisties... Then went and got themselves locked into "The Wing" at Silverstone during the Tour I *had* organised; because *they* decided to go to the loo (every loo), didn't tell anybody, and expected me to notice / care / wait for them! (I didn't ).

We're all mostly Adult... I don't mind making a list / perhaps seeking a discount / block booking and then "Ready / Set / Go"... But I'm not spoon feeding folk there... :D

Honestly though - these things usually turn out pretty good, all said, and I'm a little prickly ๐ŸŒต but I don't bite! =D> [-o< https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipO ... 2QBHpfb7vQ

Good idea for the summer and I may well tag along. Also has made me think about organising a Cotswolds-Lunch-Forest of Dean drive.

OMG I had forgotten about this!
It was me that got accused of making a dangerous overtake, it absolutely wasn't.

Don't forget the dietary requirements.

Doing the circuit in a transit van was the best bit. It was a fun day.

Sounds great! Iโ€™m based just outside Bucks! Please let us know if anything has been arranged and final. Having just spent 3 days at the British GP Iโ€™m itching to get back there, Iโ€™m sure there are some great events on there throughout this year!
