Club Drive'n'Meet '2' - June 21st or 28th 2025 - North of England - Yorkshire Dales - Miluminations Memorial drive

Post by Miluminations »

Following up on the success and the enjoyment of all who participated in the 'Drive'n'Meet' run last November in the Peak District I organised...

I am proposing to organise 'Drive'n'Meet 2'. This time it will be in the Yorkshire Dales. We will be starting in the village of Settle that's just north of Skipton, driving north to Ribblesdale then following a loop that returns back to Ribblesdale, then retracing the first section of the route back to Settle.

A 100 mile drive with opproximately 3 hours driving time and a total 'jolly' time of probably just over 4 hours, allowing for breaks to stop for a breather, re-group and admire the views.

On the Peak District run back in November Darrel and his brother Mark (Known as Mazdadaz in the club) did an admirable job being the lead car. They have given me their confirmation that they will be participating in this drive being the lead car once again.

The route is the the 'Best Driving Roads In The Yorkshire Dales' (doing the longer route), again devised by RUSH Magazine.
The link to view it is - https://www.rushmagazine.co.uk/post/the ... hire-dales

All who I spoke to who went on last Novenber's drive in the Peak District stated how much the appreciated and enjoyed the hospitality and assistance of all at 'The Commercial Inn' pub provided for us.

So for this jolly, I have been checking out some of the prospective pubs in and around Settle and I will be approaching 'The Craven Arms' in Giggleswick to see if they can offer us their hospitality. It looks a nice place, has a sensible sized car park and looking at the menu offers good food at sensible prices.
website - https://craven-arms.co.uk/

Also if we do get sufficent club members wanting to participate on the drive, i could ask them if they could open up the pub lounge for us to all meet at at 10.30am for a 11.30am departure for the drive (we'd be gone before they open their doors at midday to their regular clientele).
Also we could do like we did on the last drive I organised and pre-order our meals up front and eat as a group at a specified time when we return from the drive.

For people wishing to participate in this run from further afield, there is a Travelodge 12 miles south of giggleswick in Skipton. A room on Friday night the 7th March is £37.99 and on Saturday night the 8th is £63.99
website - https://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/176/Skipton-hotel.

Could people wanting to participate please add their club membership name and also their christian names in brackets also to the list below.

1. Miluminations - (Laurence) - DEFINITE
2. Mazdadaz - (Darrel & Mark) - DEFINITE
3. Thatturborx8 ( ? ) - PROBABLE - Subject to 10+ Participants
4. HarSc ( ? ) - PROBABLE - Subject to 10+ Participants
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

note. Could the people who administer the forum kindly sort out any cock-ups I've made in producing this post and also place this 'event' on the club calender for all to see. Thanks.

I like the enthusiasm and great job last time. Unfortunately this may be a little early In the year for some, including me, as the tax won't be on and the roads still likely gritty. Hopefully I'm wrong and you get a good attendance, but don't be disheartened if not many sign up, it's likely just the cars are not out of hibernation yet. If this was May, then I would be there.

Drew,

I'll give it until early February and see if interest for it going ahead in March picks up, otherwise I'll restage in early May.

I have cancelled this 'Drive'n'Meet' due to there not being suifficent interested members wanting to participate.

What I propose to do is reschedule the same event for June/July time when the weather is more favourable.

If you might be interested in coming on this drive in the summer, could you please just drop me a message and i'll let you know when it becomes 'Live' again...

Hopefully Thatturborx8, Mazdadaz and HarSe will participate when it is re-scheduled. Sorry to let you down...

Cheers.

It’s a shame that there’s not the numbers. Used to get a good turnout for runs in the north and there’s some great roads and great scenery.
Titanium Grey, bling wheels (set number 6) Now gone but will never be forgotten, sat nav, I-mob tracking, SS Strakes, full set of RB grills, K&N Filter and Borla zorst. Now lowered.

Just ask me where anything is, it will be in the boot!!

Now she's "the reasonably priced car is the star" as driven by Jason Plato on Fifth Gear. :notworthy:

There was for this run last year, but later in the year. It's more I think that these days people run as 2nd cars, like myself and with £750 tax a year now most also only tax a few months a year. As above I couldn't do this as its to early in the year and wouldn't use the car for anything else. So I'd pay 65 quid tax, 120 quid return fuel plus whatever spent in day becomes a £200 day in March where weather could be pretty miserable too. In the summer and timed right it will be another good turnout I'm sure.

Hi everyone,

It's with great sadness to have to report that Laurence, aka Miluminations, passed away earlier this month. I don't know any details but, after I'd been chatting with him on WhatsApp about our 8s' respective upcoming MOTs, he stopped responding; then about 2 weeks after his last message his brother messaged me from Laurence's phone to break the news.

Probably in common with others who were there, I only met Laurence once on the Peak District meet in November. He was a very friendly, engaging & enthusiastic fella, as evidenced by his achievement in arranging that meet (and trying to arrange this one) despite being new to the club.

In his honour I intend picking up the baton & to try rearranging this N Yorks run in May / June, so we can spin some doritos & raise a glass to Laurence. I've suggested his brother can join us if he wishes (he's an MX5 enthusiast apparently, so it's allowed I reckon!).

More details to follow.

RIP Miluminations 😥

Indeed it is a sad notice. I did breach the news to the club a couple of weeks ago in important messages for members, and in there expressed hope that someone would pick this up in his honor. I am glad to read you are from this. And I will also be in attendance when you put a date up, pending other commitments.

Ah thanks Drew. Sorry for repeating the news, I've been off the site for a few weeks as work has been a bit too crazy. I'll catch up on that thread now.

There's no time like the present I guess. I reckon Sat 31st May has a good chance of being decent weather, is after Bank Hol silliness & many people will get paid the day before, so full tanks aplenty! Can I gauge interest?

Can always choose another date if that's not convenient.

OK thanks Drew. Most of those seem southern based so not necessarily events that northerly members will attend, but in any event there's mid June to early July that seems bare, so maybe something in that window would be good, say 21st or 28th.

Can folk indicate if they are generally interested & have a preference between the two?

Unfortunately most events are southern, please if you see a northern event then let the events team or committee know so we can get a stand northerly. It is the struggle for many, including me, shedfest will be a 600 mile round trip for me in North Wales. Just the way it falls and you find northern members will still be attending those.

Though you are right. Plotting in a relatively big gap should provide most with the opportunity to go while also something that is available to do together in an otherwise quiet period.

Either at the moment work for me, however the government decided to make my employment no longer required for cost cutting the other day, so pending a new location or even country, if I am around I can do both as it stands.

I've noticed that the 28th is posted here as an option as well as on the Cotswold Drive event - my mistake. I know you'd shown an interest in attending that as well MazdaDaz. Info has only just gone live and confirmed for the CD25 event, so happy to shift if that's easier for this event :)
