RRP Performance Coil system MKII - Now ready to pre-order first 15 discounted

Ryan Rotary Performance Coil MKII

Preview for all forum members:

I know what you’re all thinking, do we really need another aftermarket coil system for the Rx8 after all there are plenty to choose from which do the job well including my own performance system.

Yes, they all do the job well but all are a compromise when it comes to the Rx8
All require a new wiring harness, holding bracket, new ignition leads and a remap to make the most of them, this means the initial outlay is quite high.

The Ryan Rotary Performance coil system MKII is the only system on the market that is designed from the ground up for the Rx8, the body will fit straight onto the existing OEM bracket, the connectors plug and play into the existing wiring loom and the ignition leads will be compatible.

More importantly the coils are designed for the original OEM dwell timing system meaning no need for a remap, although can be dwelled for longer than OEM.

In a nutshell the advantages are:
1. OEM fitting
2. No additional wiring harness
3. No additional holding bracket
4. Compatible with OEM ignition leads
5. Designed for OEM Dwell table
6. Can be bought and upgraded 1 at a time, reduced initial outlay
7. Lower cost than OEM

Some early specifications indicators are:
(Subject to test and amendment)

At 12V input and a dwell of 3.5ms the coil will discharge (burn time) over 1.7ms with 53mj of energy. So this is at the standard dwell timing, the coils themselves will be able to dwell further I will produce a new dwell table for them once released and tested

At 14V (closer to what the alternator kicks out) and a dwell of 3.5ms the coil will discharge over 2.4ms with 96mj of energy!!

The cost for a 4 set system with lifetime warranty is likely to come in around £199.99 and for a single coil likely to be £59.99

Likely to be released within the next 2 months. :D

Really awesome Carl and quite refreshing that you're brining all these new products to market.

Hope business is good!

At £200, I imagine these will become a 'Top of the List' purchase for new owners/members (and others)

Literally no excuses for fake coils now (not that there really ever was).

May even save some engines from being asploded as a result!

Nice work!

do these have more spark energy than the stock coils Carl? Or do they need more dwell to achieve this?

Guys I don't think there is much wriggle room to do a group on these I'm afraid, the price of £199.99 would be an introductory price and is something I tried to give all forum members the chance of benefiting from on most of my new products.

Still...... £199.99 for a bespoke quality coil system with lifetime warranty is a great offer and one you'll find nowhere else.

Do you have any technical details - particularly duty cycle and maximum dwell at 12v? Would be interested to see the discharge voltage and typical duration too.
Phil's subtle sunlight silver - stronger, faster, with added red bits and stuff

The actual coil unit is based loosely around my current coil but within a different moulding for the OEM bracket specs for which were.

Output 60KV
Rated at 13.5V
Operating voltage 6-16.5V
Ultrathin 0.35mm silicon lamination to improve the inductance of iron

Maximum Dwell for those were 6.5ms @ 12v. (I'll confirm this later I'm away from my main computer)

The new coil will have slightly different specifications which is yet to be bottomed out, but will update when I have more information.

What I'm happy to do though Phil as you are long standing member and an owner of an oscilloscope (something I'm slightly jealous of! haha) is provide you with a complete set FOC for testing and releasing an un-biased review on this forum.

Is this something you would be interested in?

My HT probe is twitching already

Happy to do a thorough test and review if you like Carl :thumleft: I'm getting a new 'scope that does logging so we can see how coils perform over a range of loads and RPM while actually driving.

Perfect! As soon as the first lot come in I'll get some out to you, the new scope sounds pretty awesome and getting some good comparable data next to OEM coils etc would be really good as a comparison. :thumleft:

It will be multi-channel and I'll get a second HT probe so I can log different coils at the same time :)

What KV are the stand Mazda C spec coils?

as that what I have at the moment, so it'd be interesting to see if these give much more poke

Not to derail the thread but Phil you're welcome to have some cheaper-end-of-the-scale D585s I have laying around and some C coils to tinker with at the same time to give an overall picture. :thumright:

Phil or Carl, if it helps I can also lend you my old B-specs, and my D585Rs (won't be using them on the triple). I could even lend you my shiny AEMs, when I have them.

Carl, are you thinking of making them white to reflect engine heat (or is that just a CAD thing)? I think that could be a sensible idea.... :thumleft:

So the favourite D585 coil is a 70 Mj spark rating and we know that works well but needs extra dwell time to perform

Carl do you have a mJ rating for these new coils ?
