Re: It seemed like a good idea at the time MK2... Race lorry time!
i cancelled the callout for the tyre fitter. not only did they want to charge (well what is homestart for then) but they couldn't tell me how much. so I bought another toy.
and off it came
with only a annoying consequence for the strap and jack idea (trying to replicate a hydraulic puller with what i had, would have worked with a decent chain)
onto the other side. having fixed the abs issue i used a load of antiseize to prevent that issue in the future (its only a very thin coating)
new wheel colour looks ok.
2 new accessory drive pulleys fitted.
and wheel number 3 and 4 cleaned up and coated in jenolite
i bent my pipe

Are you going to branch out into accident repairs or rescues next?

With 8 studs to share the shear load, you should be okay with anti-seize on the mating face.
However, the studs job is to clamp the mating faces together, and it's friction on the faces that take (almost) all the torque and impact loads on the wheel.
People who grease these mating faces on cars are often the one's that are surprised when the studs shear.

i am aware, and why i thought long and hard before doing it. but after a bit of research, i discovered a sparing amount of ant seize is very commonly applied as such on hgv hubs and never causes a issue.

test driven round the carpark and after knocking all the scale off the abs rings, the abs issues are gone. last two wheels off for a quick colour change, then off to the workshop on tuesday to have them sort the wheel bearing out.

Re: It seemed like a good idea at the time MK2... Race lorry time!
just got the lorry back from the garage. they said it was a absolute pig. they had to totally disassemble the bearing and put it back together as the two halves have a clip in the middle that had unclipped. the bearing is fine. the bill was a bit spendy at a little under £300, but a bearing costs £250 https://hgvdirect.co.uk/daf-lf55-wheel- ... SwQAvD_BwE
plus id need to buy a massive circlip tool
https://www.georgelodgedirect.co.uk/Pro ... ugQAvD_BwE
plus beg borrow or steal a press... and thats just to take it apart. so im still ahead, imho.
on the drive back there where no abs issues, so thats the original issue sorted.....

Re: It seemed like a good idea at the time MK2... Race lorry time!
evri you really need to stop dunking packages in the river......
anywho. the p/s window regulator stopped pulling the glass up square so it jammed unless 'assisted' having taken it apart i found one of the worm drive cables broken away from the motor housing so it just extends itself there rather than driving the glass.
so i bought a cheap one from autodoc. all i had to do was swap the motor over and fit it. but i was astonished to find, the cheapest aftermarket regulator i could find is a BETTER design than the factory one. broken factory one on the left, the new one has reinforcement to stop the worm drive cable flexing and breaking the outer.
a much better design.
will fit it tomorrow before i go pick up a car i just bought. again......

not really surprising tbh, it won't take much to improve upon someone elses designs.

The Jeep trailing arms I got from Autodoc were a redesign compared to oem.
Much stronger and much less likely, if not impossible, to fail in the same way.

Re: It seemed like a good idea at the time MK2... Race lorry time!
the lorry developed a water leak in the roof of the toilet. most disconcerting. I had to smash the ply that made up the ceiling skin (I glued plastic to it then glued it to the battens, so it was not coming down in once piece) then pull all the insulation out to dry it off. then go hunting for the crack (I assumed) it turns out I missed when drilling a hole a while back and never sealed it...
however whilst I was waiting for a delivery this morning I decided to do some groundwork out front of my house. I mixed up a load of concrete (by hand, that is hard work!) and laid the slabs I took up 3 years ago back down. breaking one in the process but I really don't care. the slabs in question are the top 4 by the door. they where taken up due to a load of ants deciding to nest in the sand they where laid on. this was annoying due to the ants deciding that my hallway made a good place to live also. changing sand for concrete to base the slabs on solve that issue nicely.
found the leak...
putting the ceiling back up involved screwing a new bit of ply to the battens
then gluing the plastic up, and finishing the edges with some plastic 25mm angle.
I forgot pics though. sorry.
a little bit left to do, then for the first time ever the bog will actually be done. it has suffered for the last couple of years of 'good enough to use, but not quite done' syndrome... so never got actually finished. not letting that happen this time...

my waterproof switch that I fitted to replace the inaccessible factory flush button decided it was in no way waterproof. so I needed another solution. a good Samaritan printed a waterproof insert for me
add to that another waterproof switch and I end up with this.

I might actually have a finished living soon!
sanded the doors and all the skirting and architrave have been filled and primed. just top coat to do and rehang everything.
and ive finally gotten around to sticking the club decals on the lorry. I've had them for a year or 2 now....
