Adding emojis to your posts

Post by warpc0il »

It often helps to expand on just the text of your message by adding emojis, so that people can get more idea of the thoughts behind the words.

The same words can seem cruel or sarcastic without a smiley face :D , or maybe that's what you meant [-X

When typing a Quick Reply to a thread you don't see any of the forum library of emojis (aka "Smilies") though you can still use the ASCII equivalents and they will translate, for example that was

Code: Select all

:D
and

Code: Select all

[-X
I used above

To see a display of the most commonly used Smilies in the library you need to select [Full Editor & Preview] - this is the default for the first post in a new thread and is also what you need to add attachments (photos etc).

Once in the Full Editor you'll see a selection of Smilies to the right of the screen, plus the option to View more smilies. This will open a pop-up window with the complete selection.

If you still don't see what you're looking for then you have a couple of other options.

You can add an image, for example this might suggest that there wasn't much activity
tumbleweed.gif
or you can copy and paste an emoji from an external library, most of which should translate and appear similarly here.
My suggestion would be to use https://www.emojicopy.com
this is a free site that enables you to Search and copy the results.
for example, this should appear as a bomb 💣 and this is popular 🧻🧻🧻🧻

However, when using the Full Editor, always Preview before Submitting to make sure that WYSIWYG.

Oh, and be aware that some platforms, odd browsers and Tapatalk ,often don't translate even the library emojis and readers just see strange character combinations.

Actually, you can use those too ( ͡❛ ͜ʖ͡❛ )

If you're posting using Tapatalk, then you have the option of including emojis using that interface. Most of the simple smilies translate to the browser display but many of the others don't, and might just appear as garbage.

If you're :? when reading a post with forum library emojis/smilies you can see the description of the graphic by floating your pointer over.

  \:D/ :salut:

If you have the latest version of Windows 10, you can now include emojis directly from your keyboard.

Just hold the Windows key plus "." to pop-up the menu. 👌
