Rear arch repair sections... gauging interest

Post by shambo » Mon Jan 30, 2017 10:15 am

I've been approached by someone who needs an arch repair section, is anyone else likely to be interested?

Thanks.

As discussed I would want 2 sets (both sides for 2 cars)
Rear arches are a known problem with the rx8 so I'm sure you'll get interest.
Also a rough price could encourage folk to sign up and perhaps a possibility of a group buy with a revised price for each selected number of units.
A rough sketch of what you would make would be a good idea too. I would suggest using your current rear sill panel and carrying on the whole arch.

I wonder if there is a market for some, shall we say, more attractive rear arches while you're in the process?

For the effort of cutting out the rot and replacing, some people might want an 'upgrade' while they're at it... and I've seen what you can do.

I'm up for doing wider arches matching the style or changing the style to a more rocket bunny type look if anyone does want it done.

As discussed with minisaki, I have to get this current secret project finished first and then I'll be able to start on these.

I'd love to elaborate and show pictures but I'm sworn to secrecy until it's unveiled.

Ooooh I love a secret project, I was gonna say there's gotta be scope for a bit of wide arch action while you're in there anyway, I have always wondered what the front wings would look like flipped and grafted onto the rears.... This has your name all over it James

I've made a thread in the private project area so only member's can see it but I've been authorised to show 1 picture of the "secret project".

Unfortunately yes. The arches are certainly the worst part, but there is rust on nearly every panel! Not really not worth fixing IMO. I actually took the decision to reshell the red car back in 2014 - it's turned into a VERY long term project involving much rust proofing! (and many other distractions, hence why its not on the road yet #-o )

I'd be interested as it would appear a previous repair is starting to show again.

I would imagine we will all want various panels if we want to keep running our 8's for longer than ever, seems mad mine already 10 years old but I guess not old really by modern standards. I think if the rust dont get it then it will be electrical issues!
