Random free bits

Post by rx8hunter »

Giving the following away:

- Battery cover (seen better days but usable)
- Drivers side seatbelt rail (surface rust/needs refurb)

I'll have these at Japfest this weekend.

Cheers.

Just a quick FYI, the battery tray has two primary roles, other than being cosmetically tidy.

In a frontal accident it stops the battery +ve terminal coming into contact with the underside of the bonnet, as that's designed to crease into concertina folds to absorb energy. This is a major factor in avoiding post-crash fires.

The battery tray has it's own ram air cold feed and the cover ensures that this cooling air has maximum contact with the body of the battery before it is expelled - thus allowing the battery to recover from starting and be recharged, without overheating.

Thus running without a battery cover is not a good idea, unless you've also made other arrangements for the above.

Would the same still apply if the battery was relocated to the boot?

I've not seen any relocated battery with air cooling arrangements.

Not having the heat soak within the engine bay is probably sufficient.

Cars with oem rear located battery often have a heated tray, to assist in cold starts.
