The tapered red light-up testers that sit inline between plug and lead can identify poorly working coils.

Pump up your tyres by 10psi Chris. It will "add" about 2bhp on a rolling road dyno. Then you'll be the winner. :thumleft:

(Did you all check your pressures before going on the dyno?)
Err no. That's a neat little trick which makes sense, stiff tyres = less rolling resistance!

Next time someone is repeating this process I'd love to see if there's any benefit in removing the "room fuse".

Various credible sources suggest that this puts the PCM into a higher output mode but the logic is never explained.

Removing the room fuse should reset fuel trims.

I recall reading somewhere that racers used to do it before heading out of the pits - as the cars almost always have a positive fuel trim, this'll cause them to run a little leaner (/not end up rich as a pig from extrapolating the trim up top and massively over compensating).

How legit that is, I can't be sure.

Hi all. Anyone mysteriously gained an engine cover? Just been out to the car to check oil etc and noticed I have no engine cover.
Called Horsham Developments but only got voicemail.

Sorry all, had a senior moment. I hadn't put it back on after doing the COFS install the weekend before. Found it amongst all the mess and tools.

Piccies and piccies and piccies.

Got somewhat interested in what might be a typical adjustmelon figure from a typical normal RX-8's BHP figure from Horsham's dyno, to MAP's WHP figures on their hub dyno.

Taken standard-ish cars, transmission loss fudge factor adjusted where necessary, average power/torque figures at each rpm on each dyno... fudge factor created.
Adjust Horsham data, append to Dyno Might data. Voila! As if we all went to the MAP event last year.... sort of, but not really, but kinda sorta, in a way, probably. So don't get hung up on the comparison too much.

However, because that is a little crowded, here is the Horsham-only version with a few more erroneous plots removed and (in the WHP graph) zoomed into the spicey end, which is what y'all really care about :D

And for those who are more comfortable with Horsham's figures and scaling, here are the 'accurate' plots collected.

Note mister Holmes that you're making bags of torque in the mid range, it's only at the very end that it drops off compared to monsieur Lémon and his BHP overtakes yours momentarily.

It was similar when Gene compared my plot to one of their street ports - theirs made more peak HP due to holding onto the torque for longer, but mine had better low-to-mid range.

This shows the difference between drivability and maximising power.

Even on the track I'd choose drivability every time, and for the road it's a no-brainer.

Peak HP doesn't melt steel beams and all that jazz :thumright:

And not to pish on anyone else's chips but although TerryH's wonder-engine topped the peak leader board, look at the area that's missing under the graph compared to Stu and Chris. Guaranteed their cars would be quicker in any situation.
